Default 98 m6 SS vs. 96 4.6 GT

hey guys i just met up with my friend and we had a couple races so I could experience an ls1 *** kicking! Makes me want an ls1 even more!

1998 SS m6 vs. (me) 1996 4.6 Mustang G.T.
-cut out - k&n filter
-slp lid - off road h-pipe
-k&n filter - flowmasters
-slp maf
-short stick

Race #1: roll from 10-90mph.....I lost by ~4 lenths
Race #2: 0-70..... I never had a chance
Race #3: roll from 5-40.....I kept with him for about 2 secs, he hit 2nd and
left.

i just thought i would fill you guys in. I have been looking for ls1's in the 10-12k $ range, but they are really hard to find so i thought about doing a p&p heads and cams swap on my car instead. That seems pointless now. L8ter!

yeah, I hear ya. I sold my 96 gt 2 years ago and never looked back. Its just not cost-effective to mod that car. It was a fun, reliable car, and sounded great, but the power was extremely lacking. Not to mention I hated that 5speed tranny.

same here. I really like this car, it sounds awesome (everybodys opinion and mine too) and its in damn near perfect condition. But like you said, power is seriously low, and it would cost around $2500 for the parts i want and a tune. sad part is, with all that, it might dyno around what some stock ls1's dyno at.

I have a white 2000 Z28 and a Green 96 Mustang GT. I love my GT... but my Camaro is WAY faster.

Power to you bro. Before i totaled my 96 GT 'vert (i do miss her, she was fun), i kept telling my friend i would make my car as fast as her 98 Z28 ("its only two years newer, it cant be that much faster!!" ). We never raced because i read up on the two cars. I was too chicken-shix to waste my gas on a pointless smashing.
So like i said, power to you for racing your car against the odds. Still, there's something about those lil 4.6 GT's that I found appealing. Im not sure what it was lookin back. I remember getting WORSE gas mileage from my 4.6 than i do now in my 5.7...

My buddy has a 98 GT with a lot of work and it moves like a bolt-on LS1. Those things are turds. I'd daily drive one though.

Yeah, those cars sound SOOOOO good with an off-road H, 1 chamber flows and dumps. However, they are slow as dogshit. When I got my 25th Anniversary T/A, I destroyed every 4.6L that wanted to run. I was auto and stock, . That LT1 was a strong runner though, but my SS is retarded compared to the LT1, no chance in hell my 25th would hang.

Yeah, my LT1 was nowhere near what a good LS1 or my new 5.0 is. But it sure was a purdy car!

Was there something wrong with it?

I've raced a couple Foxbody 5.0's with basic bolts ons, and they didnt put up much of a fight. What are they... like 200 hp?

I know they are light and quick, and great 0-100 cars with the right mods.

Nothing personal, but IMO i'd much rather have my LT1 any day over a 5.0

no, my LT1 was actually quite strong for an LT1 A4. I pulled an LS1 from 0-50 one time and help my friend off who claimed 14.0@ around 100 in his mustang. He agreed I was stoute for an LT1. My 5.0 just puts a but more down than the LT1's, thats all. The lighter weigth and 4.10's dont hurt either.

Good runs

What does it take for one of those 4.6 to hit 300 whp anyway?

302 ci crate motor.
X303 cam
GT40P heads shaved .030 with an .030 gasket (10.5:1 with forged probe flat-tops)
1.6 aluminum RR's
HV mellings oil pump
1.84/1.54(or .47, not sure) stainless swirl cut valves. (I think those are correct sizes, stock GT40P).
coming this weekend: Holley 670cfm carb, all MSD ignition, and edelbrock RPM intake
shorty headers
off-road X-pipe
force II cat-back dumped before the axle
4.10's
TKO500 tranny
underdriven crank
coming soon:short belt
flex fan and 3 core radiator

I am sure I missed something, but those are the "power mods" I currently have, should be in the 270-300whp arena, prolly around 285 or so.

No, but under much pressure I am about to cave in and do so, lol. I was waiting until I carbureted it and that will commence this weekend. I have had a few interesting runs though.

C5 A4 55-80=1 car loss(missed gear at 80 and called it a 1 car loss at that point)
S2000 55-95= 1 car win(I was in the wrong gear, 4th, and way under my powerband and had a passenger, he was alone.)
350Z 70-90=2 car victory (happened twice, i gave him the hit also, i think he was A5)
RSX-S M6 60-100=I cant count that many cars accurately, but he had 3 skinny passengers
2 integras-70-??- beat both in OD
NA 2.4L M5 Cobalt SS 70-95= 1 car loss, ran him in OD
late model(not newest, but almost) eclipse GT vert' A4=70-?? ran in OD, won, toyed.

AND MY GREATEST!!!! 99-01 cobra w/505 whp and a blower...it wasnt close...not by a long shot. It was sick to hear it!!!!
