Default Porsche Cayman Gets Dusted...

Just got finished with my H/C swap weekend before last. I had to switch to bigger injectors so the car was running rich and the guy who was tuning my car could only get the low load stuff close since I had a plug wire issue. Anyway, later that night, after clicking the #2 plug wire back on I went out for a drive. Saturday night so all the usual suspects are cruizing, rice, turds, etc (the quick cars are mostly parked and owners gabing) I get on a nice straight and some young guys in a spray can finished monte with the big azz bling wheels are trying to race. It was pretty entertaining!!! So we get a red light and they get to the left turn lane and they're saying "light em up man". I rev it a bit and then glance over to the right, still laughing, and see this Cayman at the light with me. Hey!!! . I nod to the guy who looks to be 40-50 and he gives a nod back. We take off from the light and I get into it WFO and powershift 2nd, looked into the rearview and it looks like the bullydog diesel is hosing soot over the porsche!! Not too shure if I really beat him by 4+ lenghts @70+ or if the poor bastard was suffocating on the cloud and couldnt see. Do I get bonus points for the big backfire as I was going to the floor? Couldnt go for seconds as he promptly turned into the swanky neighborhood at the next light. No doubt he needed a good cleaning and airing out from that one! Looked up the specs for the Cayman and it advertises 13.7. Nice looking cars, hopefully Porsche will give them some more power, the owners deserve it.

Nice run

I hate when the exhaust blows smoke. Mine does that ever since I removed the Cats and it has a tune...

mine rolls a little smoke, not as much as you would think though for being a cammed car, no cats and untuned ( hoping i can afford a vengeance tuning session in the next couple of months)

I was at a light with a 405hp Z06 and a Porsche Carerra. I said, "nice car, Pretty sick lineup we've got here." to the carerra. He replied, "I could take him" (pointing to the vette). I laughed and said no way buddy. "I could get him on the launch and hold him after that". I laughed again. 3 minutes later after the vette was gone, Carerra and I are going down the highway I'm in front of him. I see him get on it. When he was about 2 car lengths behind me and approaching at about 10mph faster than i was travelling. - Downshift to 3rd, we're neck + neck, Pull all through 3rd, 4th...and then his nose was at my rear bumper by the time I hit 5th. I caught up, pulled, then passed him. It blew my mind. The funny thing is he thought he could beat a 405 Z06 and ended up getting walked by it's little bro, the Camaro SS.

Sorry to hijack. Just a very recent Porsche burn that I had to contribute.

Good kill, dont mind another story at all! I wouldnt mind seeing how I'd do against a turbo carrera. I hear they scoot pretty well.

BTW, thankfully SMOKINV8 got me running great now that I fixed all my little issues. Hardly have any carbon blow out when I get into it now. In fact the car runs cleaner than it did stock!

Sick Nasty dude. I wish I was H/C too. I wouldn't care about smoke. I'd just go to track events as much as possible to really use the power.

take the porsche to the 'Ring along with your car and see who gets dusted. just like your car isnt set up for carving corners, the Cayman isnt set up for drag racing. built for different purposes.

no prob! now if it was a Z06 (car made specifically for drag racing..."but Reject, they tested the new corvette at the ring!" who you bullshiting its still a drag car.) then i'd be bowing down....but come on, you raced a car that isnt a drag car, it's a circuit car...BIG difference. sorta like a NHRA top fuel vs an Elise Lotus...see whattamean?

The Z06 wasn't built to be a drag car... Sure it may perform well there. but doesn't it also pull something crazy like a whole lateral G?

The Z06 was designed to compete with Fords GT, middle range Ferrari's, and lambo's. It is a world-class SPORTS car, not a drag car. It does **** POOR as a drag car by any standards. Any car that traps what it does and still is in the high 11's is NOT maximized for the strip. IT does, however, perform on par with other super-cars. Its a jack of all trades, and a damn nice one at that.
