06 350z vs 06 mustang gt
To settle the debate on which car is faster, I had my friend come down from the Woodlands yesterday in his 06 350z. There's a guy that comes out to the Wednesday meets at Taco Cabana on Westimer and Wilcrest. Anyway, last week I asked him has he ever ran a 350z and he told me "NO" sarcasticly, so I asked him wopuld he be willing to. He obligued, but he said he couldnt do it that night becuase of the issues with his front tire. So he asked me if we can set something up for later and I agreed. I gave him my number and that was that.
Fast forward to Monday. I recieve a call about 6 o'clock in the afternoon and it was the guy from TC(cant remember his name). He then decided to ask me is the race still on and I said sure but I would have to have my friend come down from the Woodlands. I made a phone call to my boy and about an hour later it was on. We decided to meet up at the starbucks on westimer and post oak to shoot the **** for awhile and discuss eachothers car. I must say this guy is very arrogant as well as conceded as he goes on and on how he hasnt lost to any imports and he pulles ls1 camaros. Yes LS1's! Anyway we decided to take it on to 59s, since there tends to be no traffic about this time of day(9:00) We all have seperate cars so I was behind them the whole time. So the first race was from a 3rd gear punch where the mustang slightly jump ahead and hold it till the top of 5th gear, where the 350 starts to pull on it. By the time they shut down about 150 or so, the 350 had about a half a car lead. Second race. They decide to do it from a second gear role. The 350z gets an early jump, but they decide to go all out till 140-145, where the Z held its ground again. The 3rd and final race was on the Beltway feeder where they did a dead stop run. The Mustang gets the jump and holds it till the top of 4th gear where they stayed neck and neck till 130 or so.
All in all it was a fun night. I say it is a drivers race till top of 4th, thats when the 350z gearing or so plays and advantage. BTW these are both manual transmissions with good drivers.

Hey 25psi, I got a 98 GT with some minor bolt-ons that I am willing to line up with a stock 350Z if you know of any. It is the 98 version that has like 190rwhp stock and does NOT respond well too mods, so to say the least it is ALOT slower than a stock 05+ GT, let me know.

I also was thinking that. Its weird becuase he was beat by a totally stock 06 sti with the paper plates still on there. I think the sti pulled him by a half a car and kept it that way until they shut down about 140.

350z are well designed cars when it comes to aerodynamics. i would think from say 50+ mph a 350z or a stang GT would be able to mabe pull away from an sti.
should try and find a GP GXP to run from a roll. i pulled away from a 350z and 05 stang from 50 mph runs in mine when i had it.

I'm not racing the BS flag, but a stock mustang GT hitting 150mph. I doubt that very highly. I know that the new 350Z's are pumping out more horsepower, but less torque, but dunno what they top out at. Are you absolutely sure they raced to 150mph?????!!!!!!!!
LS1's top out at 158mph stock, and have roughly 60-70whp more then a Mustang GT, on top of being better geared and more aerodynamic.
Anyways, sounds like a fun night. I'd expect the Mustang GT to win the 1/4 mile race more often then not, but the Z to have unquestionably better cornering abilities, and a better top end.

this still doesn't settle which one is faster, though. a half a car lead? that could be because the mustang GT had a full tank and the 350Z didn't. did they both have a spare tire and jack? did anyone have a system?
too close to tell. seems like a perfectly even match, although i doubt the 150mph thing...

i Dunno mustangs got a ***** size engine! It felt great stock vs stock I beat a 05 or 06 gt in my 99z28 bad(actually about 30 mins before I wrote this thread we raced from way back from lunch). To bad there was alot of traffic and I had to keep off the gas and get back on since I couldnt go around him without hittin someone!! anyways dont buy a mustang unless you want it for looks or your a girl! and by the way ls1's do not top out at 158, mine has been 164 around and then I hit a governer and I wasnt even at 5,000 rpm's yet!! thats top speed for ya, i love it.
