How should i do against a stock 99 viper?
#2
The only dyno I've seen of a stock 450 hp Viper (this was a 98 GTS but the 96-99 I think it was RT/10s have the same hp) was in a dyno test HotRod magazine did, it put down dead on 400 rwhp, with like 440 ft-lbs at the rears if memory serves (can't recall the torque exactly, don't quote me there). The RT/10 weighs around 3300-3400 lbs. They should run low 12s w/ ease w/ a decent driver.
Powerwise you should be pretty close, the Viper should have a fairly decent torque advantage though. I'd say if your car is well setup for the 1/4 you could take it w/ 400rwhp, but I bet on the highway or past the 1/4 you'll end up losing by a couple car lengths. From a low speed roll where the Viper can get traction and really use the torque advantage on you I'd think it would jump out a car or so as wel.
Just my guestimate, I think it will be a really close race.

Actually Gen II's usually dyno about 410hp. But your basically right. Late model GTS's will run 11's out of the box with a good driver and good tires.
Its should be a drivers race, with the edge going slightly to the viper is you both run them perfectly.
I have to think if anyone is going to have traction problems it will be you. Those 335's hook up nicely on the Vipers.
But you have pretty good power, so run em and post up

Very interested to see what happens. What gears are you running?? I have run several and beat them pretty good. I have a good bit more power then you, but kept my 3.42's in the new rearend for gas mileage, since this is more of a trip car for weekends rather then full time race car. GOOD LUCK!

WANNA FIND OUT THE HARD WAY????????????????????????????
Naa just kidding man...In all seriousness...Every magazine that ever tested the gen 2 vipers with 450 HP and 490 tq ran a 12.3 at 117 mph at the slowest and a 11.9 at 120 mph at the fastest.
A few owners have gotten 11.6 bone stock if that tells you anything...But on average a gen 2 viper will run around 12.1-12.2 at 118-119 mph with a good driver. Anything better than that is just an extremely good driver or a freaky negative Density altitude IMHO..
From what ive been reading about the lowest gen 2's will dyno is 395 rwhp and at the highest 420 rwhp...So I think around 408 rwhp is an average dyno.
Ive never driven your car so I can only vouch for my personal experience..
My C5 had serious weight reduction with the LS6 heads....No cats....No mufflers...and 1/4 tank of gas...It was a 3150 pound car..You can see the mods and rwhp of 378 rwhp and 370 rwt in my sig...
My bone stock 99 Viper would rape my C5 from a 70-130 mph roll race NO QUESTIONS asked..Even with 378 rwhp and weighing 3100 pounds the LS1 just seemed to get wimpy at these speeds..
The Viper on the other hand seems like a freight train at 130 mph..
But in a 1/4 mile race my C5 was only 1-2 tenths slower than the bone stock gen 2 GTS's at my drag strip...So with 400 rwhp and what about 3400 pounds on the mn6..You will probaly be about the same as me and be a tenth or two slower or about equal their performance in the 1/4 mile..
But you will get pulled hard from a 70 mph roll..
Good luck and let us know....I know how you feel..I was building my c5 specifically to take out stock Gen 2 Vipers..Then I figuered that with all the money I was spending just to try and hit 400 rwhp I might as well just buy a stock viper and get the 400 rwhp plus around 50 more rwt than the 400 rwhp LS1 would have..

If you want an instant edge on him. And I am almost positive he won't be running any. Seriously, do this. Run you tank as empty as you can before you go to the track. Fill it all the way full of Race Fuel. Also, for another little bit. Only for the track take your air filter out. As soon as the run is over put it back in. And lat but not least, 100 to 150 shot. You can get a cheap kit for 400 dollars. Good luck!

Dont forget to fold the side view mirrors back..I did this on my C5 during my bracket days and was always a 1/2 a tenth faster across the finish line..
No joke. That little arodynamic change let me dial in 12.93 after running 12.98-12.99 10 times in a row one night...Folded the mirrors back and ran 12.93-12.95 5 times in a row..
BTW..Yes my 2.73 auto was that consistent.
