Raced a blown GT

The only loss the taller gears will cause is a lower MPH in the top gear @ redline. However, take a car and change from a 2.73 to a 4.11 leaving everthing else the same, the car with the 4.11's will accelerate faster and hit redline quicker in top gear (if it has enough HP) but at a lower MPH than the 2.73 car.

All you have is 4.10s and a lid? There is something seriously wrong with the stang or he doesn't have the supporting mods for the blower. I have a 03 gt with a procharger and all supporting mods and pretty good suspension. When I was at 8psi it took a ls car 150 shot and drag radials to hang. There is no way 4.10s and a lid makes nearly as much of a difference as 150 shot and tires in a drag race. He may have been messing with you or somethings not right with his car.jmo

Who dug up this old *** thread??... Anyway, I just read through the entire thing and there's a bunch of B.S. in it.
^ +1! There's no way the race should've been even relatively close with Camaro having just a lid and some gears. The stang should've walked away easy. But who know what the hell really happened.

Ok, this makes no sense. Ive had 2.73, 3.23, 3.42 and now a 410. The car has been faster all the way around with the 4.10. In any car i know of where the gear was changed to a higher gear ratio the car had the same top speed, it just got there quicker.

My car traps higher with the 4.10's than it did with 3.23' and 3.42's. So if a Ls1 camaro has A six speed with 3.23's and he puts 4.10's under it you are tilling me that if the car topped out at 158 in 5th with 6th gear to go with 3.23's that when the 4.10's were put in the car that it wouldnt do 158 any more? When you go up on the gear ratio on a car the less weight the motor feels as far as strain. I dont know where you guys are getting all this slower top end stuff at but i guess it kind of depends on the trans and the rev limmeter.

Don't be confused....you said "Top Speed". And that is what I was replying too. in 6th gear with 3.23s you will have a higher top speed than with 4.10s because of the Rotations/higher rpm/pull.....basically, you run out of gear to reach the highest top speed.
