Formula..vs..Charger
I see a Charger at the stop light ahead sitting there in the far left lane
. I am in the middle lane and pull up next to him(three lane road and we are in front). Its a brand new Daytona R/T ,orange and black combination with an aftermarket exhaust(couldn't tell ya what kind). My windows are down and so is the guy's in the Charger. I give him a thumbs up
and tell him it looks good. He does the same and the light changes green. We both roll into it and mash it to the floor. He hangs for a second or two and then starts falling back
. Nothing unexpected happened and we only went up to 70-80mph at the most. I thought it was a good little race and he asked me if I was on my way to the track(he was going to the track and I am also traveling in the same drection). I told him I couldn't make it out tonight but asked him what he runs. He said he is in the 14s and that he just hit 14 flat last week. I thought that was pretty good. He said he might trade in for the 6.1 ltr. SRT-8 Charger. I told him that would be awesome. I wished him the best of luck and took my turn to my house. I am now curious as to how fast the SRT-8 is, and If anyone knows if they are going to make a 2 door coupe for the charger one day? I personally like the Charger but hate that its a 4 door, anyone else feel the same way
?

Here in Indiana I have seen several charger State Highway patrol cars.

I think thats cool they are making them cop cars. To me it makes perfect sence, 4 doors and just enough power to keep them up with most bad guys. I also want to know what they are running at the track(the SRT-8 that is).
A friend (former boss) of my old man' s bought his grandson an SRT-8 Charger. Last I heard about it, he ran a 13.1. I' m also assuming it' s completely stock considering he didn' t have it long. I like them, but wish they offered a 2-door model.
Our Sheriff' s Office, has altleast 3 Chargers that I know of, but just the base V8 model I assume. The Sheriff did have a a Hemi Charger, but gave it away, he likes his Dodge truck better.
Our Police Department, has two Chargers I think. They' re painted old school black and white. White doors and roof, black nose and ***. The cool thing is, the black on those cars, is a black metallic!

But on he same token, i raced a kid that i had talked to before hand who had a charger daytona r/t and that was a joke, thing was too heavy. So in my opinion, while the srt8 makes awesome power, its a friggin tank so that pretty much evens the playing field for the ls1 guys! Nice kill man.
SRT-8s run 13.1s - 13.3s bone stock and quite a few have run high 12s. Trap speeds usually 108-110mph unless heat soaked, etc. I wouldn't have been surprised if that Charger started inching back up above 85mph since the hp peak is at 6000rpm and they top out at over 172mph.
The hood scoops are for cooling only but one particular CAI company adds ram-air effect.
They handle FAR better than the R/Ts, it's a very well developed set-up.
True, many object to the 4doors but if you want a low 13sec 4door automatic, you would have to spend $80k or more to equal it.
They are quite heavy - my fully loaded model weighs 4198lbs w/ a full tank of gas. The Challenger will be out next year but it will probably be pretty heavy itself (3800lbs I'm guessing).
From a roll at 70mph, they are sluggish due to being the bottom of 3rd. Manually shifted they are slower than left in D. Go get 'em!

Deuuuce,, I raced a R/T though... You probably know better then me but I don't think he would have started pulling back on me. I am deff. not that fast by any means but I think I am faster then a R/T(if the only mod done is exhaust). SRT-8 would have eaten me alive. I am having Transmission problems and I can't do better then a 14 in the quarter right now
, Soooo maybe the R/T would have made a come back, but I am not willing to go crazy speeds on a 45mph road to find out
. I guess I am basically running as fast as a GT or R/T in the 1/4 mile right now
. The good news is that I am going to have the Transmission built hopefully by next year.

No, i seriously doubt he would have started inching back on u! From what ive seen at the trac and on the street the daytona r/ts arent to hard to handle in stock form against a stock or mildly modded LS1. Now, the srt8s are a different story.
shame they put 4 doors on it when they already had the hemi grocery-getter slot filled twice. Still, it's a fun freakin car to drive. Even at the same weight as the Magnum, it handles MUCh differently. I can drift an SRT8 CHarger under complete control at 60mph+ and while I have drifted the Magnum many times at that speed, I can't really say it was always under complete control. More like yelling wooho cuz it didn't come on all the way around on me.

..although i have seen some fast ones...
