911 (997) vs.stock LS1
It was in summer 2006 and i was driving at home. I drive on the right side with cruise control at 75 mph. A short time later was a new carrera (997/325HP) on the left side of me. He was only a little bit faster than me. He looks at me because he want to race me. The Porsche shifts down an i make a kickdown and we go away. I pulled him very slightly and at 150 mph i was one car in front of him I dont have a look on his face but i think he was not amused

Nice kill. Those cars are faster than the HP numbers and weight would suggest. Im sure he was a bit surprised at that one!
I dont think they are overrated. Its a little under 100K and you get a DDable car that does haul pretty well in a strait line and can go like hell if you how to drive. Its certanly not the best bang for the buck but at that point thats not what you are going for. The only automotive journalist I have seen who hates the 911 is Clarkson, and hes a bit of a jackass.

The Porsche is not bad but today it wight 3300 too and that is for the 911 to much The new basic 911 is only in the corner faster than a stock LS1 but straight ahead the LS1 is a little bit faster

I think from the line the 911 is a little bit faster because he had a better traction, but from a roll you have a really chance to beat him

Yea this guy i know bought a 2006 911S with all the goodies for 96K...
I could just never get over the fact that he spent close to 100 grand for a car that you see 2-3 of weekly...
Could have bought a Viper for 85 grand or a NSX for 90 grand...And had a more prestigous car that you rarely see once a month ( if even that)...
the NSX would have the same performance but look more exotic while the viper would have raped it...
he did have a GTS viper a few years back so maybe he was tired of them???????
All I know is that my 375 rwhp C5 blew buy his 355 crank HP 911S like it was standing still.....
I dont know man. for 90 grand i want a car that can blow away everyone or is somthing you never see. And the 911 just dosent fit eighter bill..
Before i bought the viper i checked out Ebay for the pricing on 911's. you'd be surprised at how fast they go down in value.....Everyday exotic isnt always a great term.

The CGT has nothing in common with a 911 of any generation. Nothing.
And its about 450K MSRP IIRC.
The 911 is faster than the numbers suggest. R&T (not that I like them) got a low 12 ET with the new 997 Carrera. Thats pretty damn good. They were suspicious and had it dynoed and it was a clean non-ringer car. Those flat 6s breath very well, and hve braod HP bands meaning you can really wring them out in the lower gears, which are very aggressive. That and the fact that they have all the weight right on the rears means they do pretty damn well in a strait line or firing out of a corner.
Its not going to beat out an LSX for bang for the buck, but compare them to anything else as well rounded and capable and they start to be pretty competitive.
