OKAY, OKAY!!!
Let the Bench Racing Expert come in!!!
You all sound like bickering ricers!!!
Okay I had 17k in my 1999 Z28. Mostly in suspension stuff, weight reduction, brakes, and chasis. Not a lot into engine work other than pretty much the best bolt-ons I could stick on the car that looked pretty.
My C5 vert A4 was completely stock.
Now my Z06 is completely stock.
Here goes C5<Z28<Z06.
The Z28 had big sticky tires, 3.23 gear ratio, a lot put into making it handle like a track car, and push like street/strip car. It whipped my C5 in speed and out handled it as well(mostly because I drove it for years and because and knew how to drive it).
If I could drive both the Z28 and the Z06 at the same time...
The Z06 would absolutely murder it.
Even considering the fact that I still frequently stall the manual transmission since I haven't used one in 7 years. That and the stutter that gets me all the looks when I don't actually stall it...
Hands down no questions. I mean honestly people, look at the two cars. Basically the Z06 is a C5 with bolt-ons added on at the factory.
Lower rear-end ratio, better gearing in the M12 transmission, wider/better tires, lighter weight wheels, lighter weight car, better exhaust (lighter weight too), heads and camshaft, intake, and MAF. Suspension isn't the topic here but it is worth noting.
I mean of course it can beat a bolt-on car it has all the upgrades bolt-on cars upgrade to. What work do you do on a Z06 that doesn't replace something that is already a upgrade over a regular C5?
*I'm not being an *** here and insulting any car I love F-bodies as much as any f-body owner

I raced a 01 Ws6 the other night. He has got a six speed with a 12 bolt and 4.10's. Motor wise this is most of his stuff. G5x3 cam, roller rockers, CM pushrods, dual valvesprings, LSx 90mm intake and Tb, pacesetter Lt's and ORYP, Borla cat back-running with it open, Lid w, K&N, and he has full weight. He may have few other little mods here and there. Anyways we raced from 55mph. I have a bone stock 02 Z06. We both started in third, we both didn't want to start in second-afraid of spinning. The first race was the best, we both took off at the same time, the other two I got a little jump and the other one he got a good jump. His car is so loud I only heard two honks, lol. Anyways the first race we both hooked and I started to pull, but only very slightly. He shifted into fourth while I still had about 1500 rpms left in the vette. When he shifted into fourth I then started to pull a bit more then I hit fourth and started to pull away faster. I shift into fourth around 100mph. So in the end we ended up going to about 120-130mph. Fourth gear is where I really start to gain on him or pull away, but only a little bit, not like a total murder. at the end of the run, he said that I started to pull away and he was at my rear tire. So it is a very close race, and he has lots of seat time with his short throw, even when he shifted he would not lose ground, me with the stock shifter adn I haven't had a manual car ever. His car when tuned put down over 400rwhp with those mods. I will be getting mine tuned next year possibly and see what it puts down along with the weight of the Z06. I have not ran it at the track yet, but he is running consistent low 12's, 12.1's with drag radials and dumping the clutch.
So this reply is not bench racing. These Z06's run hard especially from 5000rpms and up, they are monsters.

There really isn't much you can do to reduce weight. At least that isn't a bit extreme, like pulling the passenger seat, sound proofing, or visors (or more extreme like the entire interior).
Either that or excessively pricey like a carbon hood for ~10 lbs or lightweight calipers, etc.
