Difference between LS1 and LT1?
I raced my buddies LT1 camaro last night. its a 93, if that matters. He said he had only an intake, catback, and chip on it. I have a Lid and a catback installed now. Anyways, we went from around 65 mph, so it was a 3rd gear race (he said he couldnt get his 315's to hook below that, i think he needs to stop dumping it from 5k on a roll race ) anyways, I pulled away from him, ended up about 3 cars ahead by the end of 4th gear. but expected more. granted, if we had gone down to 20 mph i think it would have been better, and maybe thats the only issue. but I thought the LS1 was almost a full second faster than the LT1

If he has 315s than he must have some fatter rubber than stock. I'm not 100% positive, but I would bet money that LT1s did not come with that size tire from GM. Does he have a set of Drag Radials? Not that it matters at a 65 roll race, but if he does have DRs than you had better be carefull if you go from a dig.

about his traction issues, did LT1s, or camaros, or the 93s or anything about his car have a different suspension setup than my TA? He has had suspension work done, and i think its handling instead of drag, which could give these results, but i figured even a handling package will be as good if not better than stock.

LT1s having better low end torque than an LS1 is a myth. LS1 and LT1 dyno graphs have proven that LS1s make just as much, if not more, torque down low than an LT1. Case in point I owned a 96 Z28 and a 2001 WS6. The LT1 cars highest torque was still lower than the the LS1 cars torque at its lowest starting point, I think it started at something like 280 tq and the LT1 car only managed 260 tq at its highest point.

LS1 makes more torque but the LT1 makes more down lower in the RPM band. Doesn't really matter if you're going from a roll like that. I don't know why he'd have a hard time hooking up from below 65 with the stock 245s, let alone 315s lol.
I have headers, intake, and 3.73s with my 96 M6 vert. I'll race my buddies auto headers/intake '00 WS6 from a 3rd gear roll just like that. We're dead even until about 115 then he'll start walking me easily. It really depends on the condition of the LT1 I guess

Its pretty close. When I drove my 4.6 mustang LT1's were fair game. They edged out when I was stock, but a few bolt ons later and I left them no problem (stock ones, that is). LS1s are close to a second faster than 4.6 mustangs. It makes sense to me.
