You 305 haters make me laugh, having no real idea what the engine's came with from the factory, then asking it to propel a 3500 pound car down the dragstrip in eleven seconds, with "bolt ons". Give credit where credit is due for crying out loud. Nine seconds is nine seconds, is it not....?
In reference to cost.... exactly how much more do you think it would have cost Preston to get his 305 into the tens, in comparison with a possible 350 in it's place? In reference to the Ford "302", who said the anemic 305 was a better engine design from the factory? "Somebody" stated that the 305 is more suited for "truck" applications, and when documented data was presented to prove otherwise, I get irrelevant babble....

Here is my mathematical deduction you blue oval loving smart ***,
Because 12.9 is HIS BEST RUN, not his average. a 12.9 second car is a 13 second machine on a daily basis.
That seem wrong? Or do we all put our average 1/4 mile times?

Whats a bigger gap? .30 or .10 tenths?
I will refrain from name calling if you can agree that my basic math skills are still decently intact.
I personally see high (insert time slip here) numbers, like 12.9, to be a good bragging right around the dinner table, but out on the street or at the track, a number that isn't always attainable. He is only one tenth a second off from being a 13 second car. While the trans am has a little more breathing room before he slips into that category. And maybe he is super consistent, but if my best run was 12.9 I know I would have 13 second nights a lot.

It's a general observation to someone who doesn't even bother to read what I said, only to then reply with incoherent nonsense disguised as some coherent point...
If you carefully inspect Preston's set-up (by reading the Super Chevy story), and then throw a 350 into the mix, you'll see what I'm getting at (as far as cost debate). I'm not "pro 305", I'm pro 454. However, making power with a 305 is easy, just as easy as a 350, when you know what you are doing...
Yes, a 350 will always make more power, obviously. Cubic inches make torque, more cubic inches, more torque. More torque, more calculated/potential horsepower. But Preston runs NINES in the 1/4 mile, that's my point. He spent about the same money he would have with a 350, and, if people consider a 305 running in the nines, with excellent street manners, getting better gas mileage than a 350, an engine more suited for "truck" applications, well, you figure it out lol...

Your car stock..
1992 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 6.7 15.2
LT1 Stock.
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.7 14.1
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS 5.3 13.8
GTi Stock.
2004 Volkswagen GTI 1.8t (manual) 6.5 15.2
2006 Volkswagen GTI 2.0t (manual) 0.0 14.9
I'm just wondering how a car that is a second faster then the GTi and got the jump on you manage to get beat by the same length over the same speed range.

Grab a 350, its pointless to bother with a 305 when 350s are that cheap....and make good power

Did he not mash the gas as hard? Was his car running crappy? I'm just wondering what the difference in the race was. Clearly if his car runs down LT1's he should have put 3 to 4 cars on the GTi with ease.

Hey guys you ever think that i actually did take the guy out like that. I didn't post it like that hoping there would be less **** talking then the last one i did... My car is running fine. Nothing wrong with it. So what ever. When i take out another lt1 i will try and talk to the guy and get him on here... and it will happen.
