Default 2001 WS6 vs 2003 Z06

I have been seeing a C5 Z06 driving by where I work lately and he seemed to be a younger guy who had just bought it not too long ago and was driving around like he was the baddest thing on the street. Some of my friends from work said he has been pulling in the Mcdonalds parking lot, which is right beside my workplace, and revving it up. I waited on him to drive by when I was on my lunch break last night and when he did I tore out of the parking lot after him with my 200lb+ friend in the car. We hit interstate a half mile up the road and I pulled up beside him holding it at about 4K. He had the windows down and was on the phone giving me this look that said "who do you think you are? You really wanna race me?" After a second of weird looks he begins gearing down and from a 45 punch he blows the horn and we take off, I bounced off the limiter in 2nd but still caught 3rd pretty hard and we stayed neck and neck all the way through 4th when we let off. 2nd race was the same way except I jumped the gun slightly on him. I was expecting to put a car on him even with my passenger but was kinda surprised that it was so even. I guess he has more bolt'ons than I thought. We gave each other thumbs up and parted ways. FYI: I am on a nitrous tune now but I didn't spray either of these races.

Was it black? I think I know the car. Just another child whose dad bought him a Vette.

yea its black. I raced him on I-26 right off of New Cut rd. I was trying to guess what he might have done to it. I think its just intake and exhaust. "Maybe" full exhaust cause it was pretty loud.

no idea what my 1/4 times are. There isn't a 1/4 mile track anywhere near my house or town. Last 1/8 mile time on motor was 8.42 @ 89mph. That was back in the summer and before I had 4.10's. Still rocking the 3.73's back then. My 60' was over 2.1 also. (shoulda stayed out of the water)

Sounds like a good run. And your WS6 is a gorgeous car, I wish I could afford one.

Sounds abour right for a stock Z06 to me. 385rwhp is about what you would need to run even with one. Most of them dyno around 350rwhp stock. Mine ran 7.98@I believe 92-93mph stock in the 1/8th. and 12.2@116 bone stock.

That is quicker than I thought. I have seen one go 8.2x in the 1/8th before in stock form but haven't seen one crack into the 7's yet. I'm was pretty sure it was possible. I did have a 200lb passenger with me and he had only himself. I would like another race with him from possibly a slower roll next time when I have no passenger and maybe half a tank of gas instead of a topped off tank. I believe I will put a car or so on him.

I thought the 01 ZO's dyno around 345-350ish rwhp? so wouldnt the 03 dyno around 360-370ish??

Nope, general consensus is that the 01s are dynoing 330-340 and the 02+ dyno around 345-360 being the upper end. I don't place too much thought on dyno numbers though. All 02+ Z06s that are driven correctly are a high 11to low 12 second car in factory form, all conditions being optimal.

I don't know how much trust I would place on a dyno either. I dyno'ed 385hp last time I was on one, and a couple of cars after me, was a 02 bone stock Z06. He only pulled high 330's. Pretty sure the correction factor was set at zero also. I thought something was wrong with that picture.

I agree with Brian98, I doubt there's much done to it. Maybe some stingers if it's that loud. Anyway, spray the hell out of him next time and put some lengths on him. Nice run.

I doubt there's anything done to it. They are pretty loud stock when opened up. Also I raced my bro's 375rwhp camaro from 40 to 110 and put 2 cars on him when i was stock so im pretty sure the guys car was stock. Still you have a bad *** bird though. Oh and don't be too mad at the kid for thinking he was the baddest thing on wheels. I felt very much the same way when i first got my car even though I know there's always someone faster.

to me dyno's are only good for showing what you got out of mods. The numbers can vary far too much from one to the next.

I'm sure it sounds good in stock form, but this car did not have stock exhaust. It was definantly an aftermarket catback. My ears don't lie to me when he rolls by at around 1500 rpms and I heard the car rumbling. Stock exhaust does not rumble like that except for maybe on a C6 Z06. This guys car was loud. If I come across him again I will ask him if he pulls over. I will have a progressive controller installed within the next two days so the nitrous will be more usable. If I would have it hit it on him the first time, I would have probably slid the back end of my car into his due to the sliding of my rear end. It breaks loose from a 70 punch in 4th right now when the bottle kicks in. I will solve that problem with this next mod.

Agreed on the low dyno, that is WAY low for an 02+ Z06. Was it a dynojet or a Mustang dyno?

Sounds to me like it was mostly stock with a loud cat-back. They definitely trap nasty and run like crazy from a roll!
