That is your opinion that they were big. The facts are that they were small and at the beginning at this time.

Your attitude about imports is that they came out of no where after FnF was released which is what a lot of people seem to think around here.
No, my first comment that you qualify ''off base'' again(your opinion's friends and yours) was that they dont have a lot nice cars that made history in the 60s that import guys can relate to in 2007. List me the nice PERFORMANCE cars they had back then in the 60s if I'm wrong then and I'll stop replying. All they have is ;
Honda: 76 accord family car, 72 coupe 7,72 civic(economical purpose);
Nissan: 69 first Z car;
Toyota: 75 Corolla,Celica Supra 79, the 200gt in 57 in the only nice car in the 60s.
Mitsubishi: 73 Lancer is good for rally.

So the only 2 good cars were the Z and the 2000GT in the 60s that import guys could relate to. THATS MY POINT.
I never said they didnt have a great racing tradition. It was your interpretation of my comment.

Why does it have to be in the 60s? And FWIW, the Skyline GT-R was around in the early-mid 60s under the Prince brand, and then they merged with Datsun/Nissan. And don't forget the beginning of the "RX" cars from Mazda, which was also in the early-mid 60s.

It's only because you brought the 60s in the discussion , post #21. I did give the info about the Skyline, I think with 160hp the GT-R was not great compare to other muscle cars in the 60s. It's only in the early 90s they got over 200hp...LOL. BUT, the import guys can tell this car has a long heritage.

Well it's your opinion that imports weren't big. Just because they weren't that popular here in the U.S. doesn't mean they weren't in other regions of the world.

So because Japanese import cars of the 60s didn't have big V8s with over 300hp in a heavy mid size coupe that got 10 mpg makes them some what inferior? But in terms of what.. HP? According to you it seems liek its the only thing that matters. 1/4 times? Development of the cars themselves? Quality of the cars? Popularity of the car?

Seeing that until the late 60's Japanese car market came in strong out, due to its economical slump, I think it's only fair to allow 70's car's as well.

Datsun/Nissan: SP310 "Fairlady 1500," Bluebird (510), Silvia/S models, Skyline GT-R, 240Z, 280ZX
Toyota: 2000GT, Celica, Corolla, Supra
Mitsubishi: 500, Colt, Lancer EX2000 Turbo
Honda: s500, s600, s800, civic
Mazda: Cosmo Sport 110, Capella RX-2, RX-3, RX-7

It's your opinion that they were big. You assume the facts are there.

Japanese cars were known to have quality problems back then.
Some were more of a motorcycle company...

And I thought you agreed on the fact the domestics were nice for handling too. Just check the trans am series, you'll see. A great car needs power, handling and a killer look!!
Anyway, if you prefer imports, it's your choice. But for me, I'm clearly not with import cars, I prefer domestics like my Camaro SS. Thats why I'm debating so much.

After all, it's a matter of personal taste...you won't make me say that the imports are greater than domestics, never. I dont like em, but I still respect em. I'm over with this thread...Whatever !! LsX rocks !!

the way i see it is like this....i see car enthusiasts all over the place....yea i see and hear a civic(fart can) i have a tendency to ...but owning these vehicles and being car "knowlegdgable" leans that way some...im really not a fan of civics when it comes to modding them just b/c the amount of money that the individual ends up spending, he/she could have bought somthin better BUT im not gonna go outta my way and call them a "ricer" if they dont have that mentality...i have actually met quite a few import guys who know their ****...and OURS included...i enjoy learning from them as much as they from me....it keeps u informed on what u "DONT" know....its not the car its the "DRIVER"...ive seen too many *** hat LS1 drivers almost just as much as the ricers...soo its not the car...but its also tru that everybody has their own opinion about their ride...hence the reason u bought the damn thing!!!...Give respect to get it...theres ALWAYYS gonna be that clown who just doesnt belong behind the wheel of a car, no matter WHAT IT IS!!....BTW I LOVE the sound if SUPRAS....their bov's can be bone chillin in high RPMs ....sry for the long post

If I had a really nice, fast import, I would be less pissed at the domestic guys that give them hell and more pissed at the numerous idiot ricers that give imports the bad stereotype to begin with.

It seems that most of the fast import owners, who's egos DO NOT need the worship of the importfanboyzz, ARE this way (pissed at the stupid altezzaed fartpipers).

I have a Cavalier with a Pepboys fart-can anyone wanna race?
It was put on by the previous owner who also put a 3" tach that didn't work properly and ghetto bondoed the airbags back together. That's right, he bondoed the airbag back to itself. I bought it b/c it was $2100, had cold a/c, tinted windows, and got good gas mileage. The ricer club is all over so that now even low level domestics are getting swept up in the malarchy!?

Please leave cars with good gas mileage to broke college students b/c we need to save $$$ they're not fast, don't be furious.

I'm talking about a nice 99-00 Si or something, tastefully done with a nicely-sized turbo. It goes from a "good" car, to something that is good and relatively fast. Still not everyone's cup of tea (including mine), but you can't really call the nice ones POSs. Not everyone wants or needs a Camaro/Firebird/Mustang type car.
I have to disagree with some of the things you said, particularly the quality issue

Cliff Note Version

******Cliffs notes:
Apparently Toyota has indeed passed up GM in total sales at this point in the Year, but as luck would have it, they have also passed them up in total recalls.
Total number of recalls:
Toyota- 533,417
Ford- 128,163
Chrysler- 77, 000
Chevrolet- 4,829
Pontiac- 1,602

I didn't say anything about Toyota. And yes they had a big recall, but everyone has that happen to them at some point. 10 years ago Ford had a 500,000+ recall year as well, and I'm sure they others have at some point.

The point I am trying to make I guess is that GM products saw some of the LOWEST number of recalls, numbers show that the overall quality of some of our domestics is SIGNIFICANTLY improved is all..
The common misconception that all domestics are crap is hard for some to let go..
That's too bad, as it's detrimental to our national gross product/profit.
Just my humble opinion
