Do I stand a chance? Just picked up this 98 z28 m6, its got a lid and cutout, other than that its stock with almost 90k on it and running on 255's on the stock 16s.. My buddy has an 04 Mach1, 4:30's, 3" duals, stock headers tho, ported/polished intake manifold/tb, and some 335's out back, its also a stick.
Do I stand a chance? He just bought the car a couple months ago as well and just finished up these mods in the past week or two, so of course we're anxious to line em up.
BUT, he said he's put 2 cars on 2 different stock GTO's. Uh oh...
What do I need to beat him? I don't want to do gears until I get a 9" out back, so besides that...

Do all your free mods exhaust and programmer you are a good contender.

That's what I figured, from a roll though the driver error doesn't really pay as much of a part. Oh well, I've got all summer to play catch up, I'm just hoping he doesn't get spray soon.

hmmmm ... it's not soundin to good for you lol .... from a stop he's probably gonna put em on you pretty good. I agree with everyone else, do your free mods and what not. You never know though, anything can happen.

I definately wouldn't race him from a dead stop, he'll launch your *** so hard you won't know what hit you. From about a 50-55 roll is your best chance i'd imagine.
If you guys go from a dead stop, and he launches you, you will not make up the ground, unless he misses a gear. Very close cars stock for stock, and he's got a little bit on you i'd imagine.

You're buds, right? I take that to mean you're good friends. So who cares what the outcome is? Right now, he's pretty much got you covered, unless he does something stupid. Maybe the two of you can work together over the summer to get your car up to snuff, and dust his *** come a nice, cool fall day. It's all about having fun!

Oh yeah, we're all about having a good time, friendly competition is ftw. I've just been a mustang nutt, (foxbody) for awhile and he's giving me a hard time about getting an LS1, but I just couldn't pass up the deal, plus bang for buck is awesome.
I'll catch up sometime this summer. Thanks guys, I'll look into the free mods.

From the sound of it....I think the Mach I is going to get you. Buy you some Long Tube headers and get you a NelsonPerformance tune...and you'll be okay.

With those gears (4.30) it is all about launching hard and keep accelerating. However, that kind of gear can hurt you too. If he does not have DR.s and he gives it a little too much gas, he will sit there and spin till the cows come home. If he does spin, take advantage of it! If he can drive, you might be in trouble.
Also, you have to ask what are you racing up to. Remember, with 4.30's he will run out of mph pretty quick. That is why I still think 4.10s are a great gear for the MACH. You get your good acceleration and you still have descent mph.
