My z28 got beaten by a Gs-t :'(
Ok guys...
I recently bought this car, It's a M6 with just a catback on it.
I recently put a lid on it... And I was assuming that my car should have around
300 Rwhp on my car right?..
But my buddy who has a gs-t (eclipse) running about 20psi... He dyno'd the car and it made 270fwhp...
we raced from a 40mph roll... Up to about 120..
First I took off on him but once he's spooled ... he's gone... !!!!
How The F.. could this be happening...?!?!?... He has only 270fwhp. and he beat me?. Is it my car that's F'd up? or what?..
I'm gonna do the full tune up on my car right now and see if it will be better or not... But yea.. I got smoked by an Eclipse Gs-t ...
Btw - What rpm were you suppose to be shifting at..? I shift at 5,500rpm? Is that too high or too low?. Should I be shifting at 6k ?

Your car is probably running just fine dude. His car is a lot lighter, which will make up for the difference in power. Comparing just HP to HP is a poor way of comparing how cars will run against each other. There is so much more to it.

I shift at 5500 in my lt1 and i know ls1's will wind higher so yea shift around 6 im guessing for a stockish ls1...that would honestly make a big difference....
Example
I was first shifting at 5200 and running 9.10's at 79-80mph and then started shifting at 5500 and was running 8.90's at almost 82mph so i picked up almost 2 tenths and almost 2 mph buy just increasing my shift points by 300 so i say u doing the same would help u alot....

Don't worry about that too much, 270 in a FWD Eclipse will make for a decent highway roll car. If you put that power in an AWD model it should be getting low 13's, but the FWD's will get a better MPH.

You aren't getting to all of your power by shifting at 5500. Run it right to 6000 and you will probably pick up a bit. Remember that the higher you shift, the higher RPM you start at in the next gear, and the opposite is also true. Shifting at 5500 is going to start you lower in the next gear, which means less power when you let that clutch out (shifting higher is more than for just peak numbers when you are racing).
Also, I am seeing different numbers weight-wise for that Eclipse, but assuming he weighs around 3,000 pounds, he should still be walking away from you from a roll. My brother and I both have 2002 Z28s and they both weighed in at about 3450. The rough rule for weight advantage/disadvantage is roughly 10 whp for every 100 pounds.
With that in mind, you are probably making no more than 300rwhp with your LS1 intake and, therefore, he only has 30 horsepower less, but weighs about 450 pounds less. According to the numbers, (which of course don't always matter or add up, but seem to in this case), you need about 15 more rwhp to keep up.
PLUS, take into consideration the drivers. It sounds like he's had his car longer than you (you said you just bought yours). Practice, get some long-tubes, cold air, and a pulley, and you should be good to go.
Unless he is spraying...hahaha.

Short shifting will hurt you big time. Thats the first thing to correct.
And loosingto a 270WHP car with a weight advantage is not shame. Get yourself some basic mods and drive more effectively and it will be a different story.
