Default 01 SS vs 3000 GT VR-4

This happened on Saturday night -

Ran into a buddy at a light and I hadn’t seen him in a year or so. As we were shooting the **** (light takes forever to turn) I noticed he was driving a 3000 GT but didn’t really pay attention to it. He then complimented me on my ride and how it sounded (just got the new setup up and running and its not fully tuned, just a quick street tune. Much more left in it ). I then gave his car another good look and noticed it said “Twin Turbo” right next to the window. I said to him “a VR4 eh? Very nice, I hope it’s not stock!” He smiled and said something but I didn’t catch it. I told him I wouldn’t launch my car (stock 10 bolt would take a vacation) but I’ll damn sure try to run him down.

Anyways on to the race!

As soon as the light turned green he took off and got a good 2 car lead (goddamn AWD) and I quickly eased out of the hole and mashed the pedal with no wheel spin. Got to love them BFG DR’s! By the end of first gear I ended up next to him and as I took 2nd to redline I had started to freight train him and shut it down. I would have kept going but no point in getting a ticket when I had clearly won. The car wasn’t loud, but had a nice sound to it. If anything just had a cat-back but nothing serious as I went by him like he was going in reverse. We gave each other a wave and he and his passenger said my car sounded amazing in the upper R’s. He continued straight and I turned on to the freeway.

Cliff notes:
Basically stock VR-4 gets raped by modded SS
He had a passenger, I did not
Fun race and no drama

Good kill. A friend of mine has a VR4 that runs 12.30's. It's pretty amazing to watch him launch it at about 5500 rpm and have zero wheelspin.

Sweet.

Now get a real pumpkin so you can use all those chassis mods. You wont be saying "damn AWD" much after that

Tell me about it, I'd LOVE to have a 12 bolt or 9 inch with some 3.90's but I've spent enough money for the time being. I have no "excuse" to buy one.....yet

Probably not....I've had great luck with this 10 bolt. When I was cam only(412rwhp) I used a friends ET streets and launched @ 6500rpms @ fireslick and dead hooked HAHA. Did that a few times heh and still no howling, no problems. The car has been on DR's since 30ish thousand miles as well

That is sweet. I would expect that to kill almost any stock rear diff.

A stock VR-4 is only putting down 230-250awhp, depending on year/condition. So it's a no brainer that you beat him once you got going...

I never said it was a great triumph? It was more or less the 1st race I've had in a year and a half. It also allowed me to see just how hard my new setup pulls down low.

I used to do that with my VR4 and one day the tranny broke

True, and not all street kills in this section are close races.

those 3000gt vr4's were way ahead of their time in terms of technology put into the cars.

ive always liked them.

good run. ive never come across a heavily modded vr4. i know there out there but in general their not a super common car. atleast not around here.

^ Yup... Very rare due to too much **** to maintain and/or repair...

But those that are in good shape boast what might possibly the most dedicated and loving owners.

I love my 3000GT, even though it's not a VR-4.
