Default Tons of Vette Kills (C6, Z06, ZR1)

Competed in a standing mile race recently (in the half mile category, as a cage is required for the full mile at this venue), and was very pleased to best some very nice vehicles. Besides an E46 M3, two SRT-10 trucks, an EVO VIII, Lotus Elise, S/C Mustang Cobra (vortech), I also beat a handful of stout Corvettes. A ZR1, two C5 Z06's and one C6 Z06. No side by side racing, no e.t's, as only trap speed is measured. I probably had an advantage, as my Taurus is turbocharged while the Corvettes had to rely on N/A to get their cars moving. As it was, at the 1/2 mile mark, I was over 3mph faster than the C6 Z06, 5mph faster than the C5, and a whopping 17mph faster than the SRT-10 truck (bricks at speed I would guess).

I was really excited about besting the C6 Z. I would have really liked to have had some stock SRT-10 Vipers, to see how I stack up against them, but the only two in the half-mile shootout were both forced induction, one a heffner TT with 1100+hp, and the other an S/C'd GTS with approx. 800-900hp.

TT

1990 Taurus SHO - Turbonetics 62-1, forged and low CR pistons, 460hp on low boost 91 octane

Seems many are doubtful of my results, so I thought you might like a link to the official race results. Just go to sorcrace.com and you will see where to click. I am car #451, finished 9th overall in the 1/2 mile (out of 43 cars) and 5th in the street car class.

WTF? I just checked some of your threads and came up with these 2 as a good idea of how fast you are.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/street-racing-kill-stories/210149-cts-v-vs-modded-sho.html
Your car is quick but if these threads are accurate then you are full of it, you cant hang with a C6Z06, especially not on the top end so dont bs us. Dont mean to be an *** but your story just doesnt check out bro.

yea on your post against the LS6 converted vette coupe you mentioned you trapped a 115, Nowhere near a C6 Z. and id imagine they would walk after that as well. However nice run. What did you end up with?

that's a cool little sleeper you got there, I'm guessing you run some pretty tame gearing for it to be able to get up top like that.

You are right, I am not hanging with the C6 Z06's I was beating them But yes, I guess an explanation is in order. The race against that old C5 was 3 1/2 years ago. This is not even the same car. Same engine, swapped into another SHO, new fuel system, laptop tuner (instead of chip, which was a poor tune), 62-1 with a proper A/R vs the little T3/4 I had back then. Way better power curve, especially up top. Power dropped off very quickly over 6000rpm before, now I make power all the way to redline (7300rpm). Lot of other upgrades over the old car.

Sandhills Open Road Challenge, Arnold NE, every August. sorcrace.com

There are also mile events in Texas (texasmile.com) and north carolina (ecta.com), and a number of other open road races are featuring mile shootouts prior to their events. It seems to be getting bigger every year.

Thanks. Stock gearing, final drive of 3.74, fourth is close to 1:1, and I can see just a bit over 140 in the 4th. 5th gear, provided I could make the power, would be good for 195mph.

And for those wishing for pics, here are some of the engine:

Some of the car between runs at the Sandhills Open Road Challenge:

And some of the other cars there:

Overall fastest of the day - that ugly I-4 four-door car from Mitsu - 215.93mph, 0.83 mph faster than the above Viper bodied TT chevy engined race car.
