Default a4 ls1 vs m6 LS2 GTO, *****, and new mustang GT

I had a blast last night finally getting some good race's in. A quick summery of my car, I have a 98 pontiac Trans Am, a4 with pacesetter longtube headers, y-pipe with no cats, hooker catback, slip lid, ls6 intake mani, lower control arms, relocation brackets, tranny cooler, and lastly a dyno tune from eastside performance, it made 320whp as it sits now.

I raced a stage III ***** only at 18psi though with 2 girls in the car, then a ls2 GTO with an exhuast, and lastly before the night ended a new mustang GT with an intake.

I started out with the *****, met my friend who I previously raced before I had the ls6 intake and tune, from a high roll he killed me back then, today he was surprised. He said he was about the same as before, but he had 2 girls in his car and I think that's what made the big dif., from a 55mph I beat em bad, he said he wasn't boosting by mistake, not sure what that means, maybe for stage III he had to hit some sort of switch for high boost or something? then we went again from 50mph, this was a little lower in my rpm range aspecially being auto, but it wasn't too bad, anywhere from a 30-50mph roll is much worse for me, we both seemed to have gone a bit slow from the get go and then I pulled a few cars and stayed that way, after the few cars he wasn't going back any. I think with the girls out of his car he would have slowly ran me down.

Second race was with my friend's GTO. We went from a stop and I beat em bad, I'm not having any issues with this car from a stop on the streets, probably due to me being auto and the lower control arms and relocation brackets seem to help out good too. Then we went from a 25mph roll, I jumped 2-3 cars, basically pulled until about 40-55mph where it looked like I wasn't pulling anymore, and we stayed the same with me about 2 cars ahead the whole way. He was really surprised and impressed, he wanted to get nitrous he said but I told him he would probably destroy me with just a tune, maybe it was more than I thought I had em by because it's hard to see how far behind someone is, but it didn't look like I was pulling anymore once we got going in the high mph range, my car seems to die out up top, maybe cause it's auto, but he wasn't gaining on me at all either.

Then as I was about to go home a couple in a mustang messed around with me. it was a 2k5+ GT, he asked if I wanted to run it I said sure, we tried to go from a roll I'd pull pretty easy and fast I thought he missed a gear, lol. Honestly I thought he missed a gear everytime we raced, it was really no challenge, we went from a stop and by 10-15mph into it I'd pull him hard. We stopped at a gas station he told me he had an intake and said my car rips, I said his does too and looks good, from the gas station we gave it a go one more time from a stop, we agreed to pull out, him beep 3 time's and we'd hit it, it didn't work out too well, we would slow down and stop and go, trying to get in line, eventually as he was a half car ahead i just waited for him to step on it, soon as I heard his exhuast note sound like full throttle i stepped on it, we went off, by about 20mph I pulled hard, as soon as he shifted it seemed, I honestly think he may have missed gear everytime we raced cause I pulled really hard when he shifted every race. Anyway, finally got some good race's in! To think I was recently trying to sell this car, I've changed my mind I'm pretty happy with it.

It was with the tune. The first run it made 297whp, then after the tune was 320whp. I think I was at around 285whp stock, then with the full exhuast and lid I was at the 297 they dyno'd, then after the ls6 intake and tune I am at 320whp. The 98's are the first year and it's auto so stock it was one of the slowest ls1's out there. Still is pretty slow with these mods I guess, but I'm having fun, and she sounds great.

So i hear, I'm not sure if it's with the converter locked, idk what that means? Nice looking camaro by the way.

edit: Don't wanna double post so I'll just add to this post, it's passed midnight on saturday and I just got home from an interesting race. Raced a turbo Ford Escort, weigh's 1700lb's the kid said. Has a carbon fiber hood, lightweight wheels, racing seats, etc, he said he dyno'd 200something whp (low 200's I believe). He's got the video on his phone I hope he posts it online, we went from a stop and a 30mph roll. From a stop I beat em really bad, from a roll I'd say about 3-4 cars. It's a cool sleeper I thought I was gonna loose I mean it's so light. But yeah it was a fun weekend got to race a variety of cars.

When you dyno an auto you have to lock the convertor so it doesn't change gears on you, and so you are matched with a 1.1 ratio. Some dyno operators forget to do that. If you aren't at a 1.1 gear ratio, the numbers are not correct.

Actually, you lock the tranny in 3rd to achieve that. Locking the convertor takes some of the drag and inefficiencies of the A4 tranny out of the equation, freeing up rwhp.

You are probably right, I am just going by what he said, I did some research I believe those cars are 2300lb's. It's definately lightened with racing seats, carbon fiber hood, lightweight wheels and pretty gutted but I don't think it's enough to bring it to 1700lb's, I think he exagerrated there.

These are pics of his car:

You should see my daily...

I actually had another race on sat. morning with another friends GTO. This one was much faster, it ran 12.5 @ 111, he said he did it with just catback and his drag radials. The other catback GTO I beat, but this one beat me both race's. Granted the race's where from a stop and he had drag radials, but when we took off we were neck and neck, once he hits second his tire's chirp, and he keeps pulling until about 3 to 3.5 cars by the end of the race. The other GTO I raced didn't pull at all, it would have ran me down if it did. So this one was making more power, he said he now has headers on it but I still wonder if he ran his 12.5 with just exhuast and drag radials. The car always seemed a good deal more powerful than other ls2 GTO's I've raced. Is 111mph consistant with most LS2 GTO's that just have exhuast done?

I know alot of guys are pulling 107-109 mph stock so I could see opnening the exhaust up and running on a cool night could pull that mph. I know when I put a catback on mine it made a HUGE difference.

The guy with the turbo escort I raced posted the video!

It's from his phone so it's not the best quality, I love the sound of my longtube's though, lol.
