Took out a fellow LS1 with SRT8 300c
I've been building my camaro for the last few years , but never got into it until recently. A good deal came along on a 12 bolt and other goodies so I decided to put the camaro in race mode since it's my weekend cruiser and not my D.D. So now that I'm getting into it now, my boss who is a bit younger then me decides to buy a toy to race as well. He went out and bought a 2002 Ram air T.A..It had a flowmaster catback on it when he bought it and he put on an SLP lid right away. He decided to go to the track last friday to get some pre mod numbers. I met him out there in my wifes SRT8 because the camaro wasn't ready. He ran about 8 times but was missing 3rd most of the time and spinning, so needless to say the times were not great.
On the way home we are cruising are 60 ish and he pulls up beside me and just stays there. I gave it a touch of gas to let him now what I was thinking, then evened back out. The first run I gave him the jump from around 60mph .I had my car in auto mode so he got a fender on me while my car was downshifting. After that it was all over. Almost instantly back to even and start putting some distance on him. Kept the speeds down below 90 because we are not big on street racing, but since it was about 15 miles of straigt away in the boondocks we went for it. I hit the brakes shortly after with about 2 cars on him and pulling away. Second time, I went first, but it was futile for him. I put a couple car lengths on him in what seemed to be seconds and pulling away at a pretty good pace. I remember that feeling of hopelessness when I got beat by a modded fox body back when my camaro was stock. Third race he went first but same results, I pull away quick and keep pulling. The srt is a great hwy cruiser, for a 4200+ lb car it pulls hard until you let off.
Needless to say, this weekend the boss had american racing headers and y-pipe put on,had it tuned, as well as some welds and a pulley. He also ordered a new clutch and shifter.
My mods on the srt8 are cold air intake which doesn't do alot for it and a predator programmer which helped a bit, mostly with torque management. My srt ran 13.5 @110 with a 2.3 60 foot( hard to launch those stock skinny 20's)
Anyways his plans are to compete with my camaro not the srt, good thing because the wife won't let me do any more to the srt after I "ruined her camaro". Would be a good race now that he has some headers and pulley though.
Just thought I would share since it's my first kill on the street in many years. It won't be long before his TA is running 11's I'm sure. His budget is better then mine.Thank goodness I got a 10 year head start modding or I would never keep up.Hope he doesn't fire me if I take out his modded TA with my camaro!! Our goals for now are 11.5's. I just finshed my camaro build today with the installation of my rear welds with Hoosier drags(not my first choice in tire but mickeys can't be found). Maybe this week I'll have my first track times since the build started and he'll do much better.

I'll tell him tomarrow. It's not that embarassing. He hasn't registered here yet to read it.Yeah maybe he didn't have it in the right gear or something. I didn't ask him about it.

When I had my headers, exhaust, lid, and free mods; I raced a SRT-8 charger from 10-110 and put 5-6 cars on him. He had at least an exhaust and turned off rather quickly after we ran. Also just for comparison sake...

Was that with gears? Sounds like you've got a 115mph trap car? Or was he manually shifting with the ESP on?

That was with 3.73 gears on a stock 10 bolt. I don't know how he drove it, other than slowly... HAHA, no he turned off really quickly after, and I had my t-tops off for a little more drag action btw. I was trapping about 105 then but i'm at 4400' here so it screws with our times quite a bit.

I am running plain old predator 93 tune and the afe intake. I really want to do the corsa exhaust but that would upset the wife as I promised not to mod the car in any way that would change the sound.
The srt is a great cruising and handling car but nothing like the H/C camaro with a cutout and 4:11's in straight line umph. Can't wait to get to the track ,hopefully this week.
