Plus, if you think about it, only 9's for the lightning? After being around this long they're not out of the 9's yet? Aren't there any with built old school FEs or 460s faster than that?
thats a street legal lightning in the 9s, there are several but the JDM truck gets most the publicity. street legal tires too.

and silverado ss or 454 ss responding as well to mods is a joke, srt 10 and the cayenne are the only ones close and theyre double the price of an L

intake, catback, tune, lower = mid to low 12s, i guess thats slow

Ls are lighter and FI, hard to beat mod for mod

Also forgot good freind has 99 silverado 5.3 STOCK, With envoy convertor and 150 shot handed same lightning it's *** on the street. Not bad for a truck(CHEVY LS1) I think he paid $5000, not $20,000!

That is true, i know a guy who told me about his race against one and barely winning. He pulled him at the end, and he's got a few mod's in his Z28. Idk exactly what, never got to see under his hood or asked him. Dont really talk to the guy very much.....

I cant believe some of the ignorant posts in this thread. For a truck, the Lightning is pretty sweet and pretty quick. Name a truck made by GM that is faster than the lightning. Ford brought a 380hp blown single cab truck, dodge brought a single cab truck with a viper motor, and GM brought a extended cab AWD truck with a 6.0L truck motor, WTF? Who at GM thought that was a good response, lets make a truck heavier and slower than the competition. I'm a GM guy so I would rather have a trailblazer SS but a lightning is still a sick truck, some of you should look through some glasses that aren't GM colored.

ok so the joe gibbs edition truck has just as much potential as the lighting. the joe gibbs has a smaller motor and more power and it also comes with a five speed.

While the fact that it has a manual transmission would most likely be the reason I would choose it over the Lightning (if I were looking for that kind of vehicle), I wouldn't say it has "just as much potential," especially for the average person. The Lightning is intake/exhaust/pulley/tune away from being a SERIOUSLY quick truck. Only way to make the Silverado that fast for the same money would be nitrous, and Mr. Average Joe isn't going to do that.

IMO, Its like any other vehicle.. In my town we have 2 with Lightnings WELL OVER 600 Rwhp...lucky i know both.. the rest 90% that i know of are mid 8.6 AT BEST in an 1/8th ..W/bolt-ons (we dont have a close 1/4 miler)

Now to mr ANTI-Roll ... Look .. some ppl have to roll race.. a 500 plus honda no way he can dig( yes i have a freind with one.. yes ive posted video)... take my car, its is slow.. only 400 rwhp .. and it spins at 65 ( w/street tires) But i do perfer to dig(because most the time i know i can out drive them).. unless theres a diff in tires, street conditions .. traffic ect.. Besides ... roll racing is the BEST way to find out who has the most hp to weight

One of the 600 + trucks was a Jdm.. its when back then 8.21 spinning as it hit 2nd gear.. i drove it a few times ..was very impressed with that One truck only

The other truck is a 677 RWHP Panhandle truck it was in the Ford magazine last year.. Eric Gulis's Silver One

Not trying to start any crap in my first post, just wanna throw in my results with my 00 Lightning. Bone stock- 13.81@100.23; changed plugs( 2 were shot) traction bars and DR's- 13.51@102.45; 2lb. pulley, intake, hi flow cat mid pipe, catback, tune- 13.18@104.92; 55 shot 12.41@108.51. All runs were done in the summer( 90 degree plus temps and 90% plus humidity) execpt the nitrous run, it was done in the spring. I now have a 4lb. pulley with a rich tune but have yet to run it at the strip. As far as top end when it was stock before I had GPS, it would bury the 140 mph speedo fairly easily but don't know the exact mph. With the 2lb. pulley it has been 153 mph, and with the 4lb. pulley it has went 157mph( with a rich tune). And to the OP, not saying your lying, but for a 4lb. pulley that Lightning was very quite. My 4lber screams, nice kill though.

And the best kill I have had was a newer body style Celica riced out with 20 or so stickers and a fart can that sounded worse than usual, who knows if it had anything else. He started it by reving at me at the light and it made my wife laugh. Well light turns green and I walk him bad, with 20 sheets of plywood and 12 bundles of shingles in the bed.

This is my only issue, these two statements do not agree. Lightnings are pretty cool trucks, but I'd rather pick up a cheap mid 90's Silverado with a big block on the bottle if I wanted a quick truck to drive to the lumberyard or the grocery store.

It's possible to go mid to lower 12's with that combo but you would need a 4lb or 6lb lower pulley in good weather, I only had a 2lb with bad weather. People have gone 12.7's with upper pulley(2-3#), tune, exhaust, intake and slicks in good weather.

I have been trying to get him to spray and pulley his, because long tubes, high flow cats, shift kit, drag radials, traction bars and johny lightning tunes, have done very little for the truck. He has bought all the parts at Johny lightnings advice and we have installed them. I like the truck, I would take it. It just seems like all that money he spent did not do much, thats all.

he answered it for me. weather makes a huge diff for Ls, and a 2# compared to a 4# is quite a diff. a good upper/lower combo is an easy way also, and still a bolt on.

I don't consider roll racing even a win. Just a stupid way to see who's car is faster. Go from a dig or don't go at all.
Wah wah wah....

Do you do anything but whine in this forum?

Nice kills, OP. That 35 roll looked like a great run.

This is great, I love this forum. But isn't the lighting supercharged just like every other ford that can beat a LS1. except for the mach 1 and thats a very close race, but all gm has to say is corvette and we win again ford has nothing over gm and never will and the joe gibbs truck atleast dont look like a space ship that cant fly like the lighting

I whine? Big difference between whining and being a realist. Don't like it? Cry for me
