SS versus New GT?
Hey guys im pretty new to all this stuff and was just wondering what would be the best race for a 2000 Camaro SS against an 07 Mustang GT. The camaro is an M6 and the mustangs an auto. I would perfer not to go from a dead stop because i dont feel like replacing a clutch/rear end/ tranny, etc. Both are bone stock. Some 05 v6 stang is also dying to run me but im not too worried about him
SS should win if you know how to drive. But I'm guessing you don't since you're afraid of breaking half your car. So I would put money on the GT winning a dig race due to driver...no offense
where those cars start to fall off is when they have to shift into third. I would know my buddy has one they will hang close through first and second but once you do a 3rd and 4th gear pull it gets a lot worse for them. But make sure you know how to drive it well because you will need to hit your shifts pretty well.
And first gear pulls you dont want to go from higher then 35mph since you have to shift at 45mph
2nd go at 55mph
3rd go at 75mph

just learn how to drive take it to a parking lot and figure out your 1st to 2nd shift watch your rpms so you dont max it out if you get that down 3rd and 4th are no problem.
I'd GO TO THE TRACK though just to be safe I street race a little but only to the speed limit and keep the traction controll on and the cut out closed so the police dont get me.

Those auto launch damn hard out of the hole. When I was stock my buddy could put at least a car and a half on me every time. Of course once I hit third gear it was all over
The sure thing would be a roll from 50 in second. Or from 20ish in first would even due. If you've installed the the driver mod then have at the dig.

To give you an idea I have the heavy LS1 GTO A4 which you would beat and even I pulled away from a '05+ Mustang GT 5spd and I had to let off on the 1-2 shift. All I have is Predator(custom tune), Borla CB, K&N Cai, and TB Bypass. You're not even racing the 5spd so it will get ugly for the auto GT if it's stock.
If you're a half decent driver you shouldn't have much problem in any type of race. Those GT's are strongest from a stop so to make it fun race him where he has the best chance

And what's with all the 'you should.....cause the 'one time'....' stuff?
What I meant by it getting ugly is if the race goes past 60-70 where the LS1 shines, plus the new GT's aren't the most aerodynamic.
Don't get me wrong I wasn't bashing the auto GT but I know the 5spd's are stronger once you get moving. The 5spd will trap a little higher if it's in the hands of a good driver. The average '05+ mustang gt autos will run in the high 13's at the track while even an average driver should at least get into the mid 13's on a good night in an LS1 F-bod. I had an '02 Mustang GT myself so don't think I don't respect them.

I'll go with the consensus here..........learn your car first. Racing a car you're not yet comfortable with is a recipe for disaster.......either for your pride, or your car.

If you get the hang of your LS1 first, I see no reason why you can't nail a stockish S197 GT.....auto or manual. The HP and torque curve advantage are yours.
I'm sure its been brought up in this forum already, but the 05+ GTs have 5 speed autos, not 4 speeds. But they are generally still 2 to 3 tenths slower than a properly driven manual.
