webbing is also much thicker on mex blocks. also pre-74 302 blocks are stronger that later, 69 being the strongest.

That's what I've always heard... that the '69 302 block was the strongest made.

Has that been proven by a machinist? There are WAY too many falacies about 60s motors/stangs for me to just take a word for it. I have read MULTIPLE writings of ole Jim Smart himself that have been proven wrong multiple times.

BTW - not trying to be an ***.

Pretty much like the one that is in my sig except its an automatic. However I dunno if this race could happen for free. I always think its fun to throw alittle money in a race anyways. Your car is strong as hell so I don't see a problem with you pulling on it.

you don't know that. All you see are some dyno numbers. I might not be able to put hardly any of that power to the ground.

I find it so funny you talk so much **** about Mustangs being so slow yet your car runs 13.5

And it was pretty sad a guy in a modded DOHC Cobra couldn't outrun a Mach 1 that had traction issues, little mods, and another person in the car.

His driving was ok, nothing to brag about. Mine however is pretty spot on.
Sorry man but if we are talking a 03 or 04 mach 1 which im sure we are you better go back to ford school so that you can learn that the mach 1's also had the DOHC 4.6

96-98 cobra = 305 hp at 5800 rpm and 300 ft/lbs tq at 4800 rpm
03-04 mach 1 = 305 hp at 5800 rpm and 320 ft/lbs tq at 4200 rpm

both are DOHC not to be confused with the 3 valvers in the GT s-197's
which put out 300hp at 5750 rpm and 320 ft/lbs tq at 4500 rpm

what you did is you probably beat the driver not the car, the mach 1's tq peaks quicker which helps but they are both very similar in power

hell a 96-98 cobra vs. a 03-04 mach 1 is more of a drivers race than a mach 1 vs an LS1

sorry

You would like to think so, but mach 1s keep up with me far better than any pre 99 cobra has.

they have different heads, different cams and better gearing. mach 1 > 96-98 cobra all day every day. m5 mach 1 is on par with a m6 or a4 ls1 fbody. f-bodys trap higher and are stronger on the top end but mach's are stronger down low due to gearing in the trans and the rear end. an auto mach is no match for any ls1 fbody.

I have always wondered why auto maxhs are soo bad, i test drove both the m5 and auto just messing around 1 day, the m5 was a world of difference.

i guess the point i was trying to get at was the OP seemed to be surprised that his gf's mach 1 beat a "DOHC 96-98 cobra" when in fact the mach 1 is also DOHC and is supposed to be faster than the earlier cobra

I just figured with his car being a 98 and him being a guy it would have more mods than it did. (I'm guessing it didn't have much done to it)

Well they have the cast crankshaft from the SOHC 4.6, so Ford dropped the rev limiter back to 5,800rpm just like in the GTs. And of course Ford automatics shift slow as dog's ***** from the factory

The 5spd Machs have the forged Cobra crankshaft, but GTs and automatic Machs have a cast crankshaft.
