Race in 2 weeks - 87 Grand National VS 08 Z06
I have scheduled a run with a friend of mine that bought a new 08' Z06 and has put a hefty cam in it, full exhausts, and had it tuned. Not sure what he is dynoing but should be 500 to the wheels I would guess. He is supposedly buying some slicks for his car so should be interesting. He and I are going to the Raceway in Houston in 2 weeks and will be bringing out my 87' GN to make a run against him.
He and I are going to put a $1000 bet on the table for this run. He is very confident in his car. He has not run it officially on the track but has run it on the street since the works has been done. He knows my car and what it will do, but does not know that I will have mt cryogenic spray blowing in to my intercooler, and my methanol system spraying as well. I am going to retune in hopes of getting 28-30 psi out of my turbo where I have been running 25. My best time in summer heat is a 10.65 at 127. The last time I had mine dynoed she was 503 to the tires. My car weighs about 3200-3500 pounds, I would guess.
What are the predictions here?

Please video tape please. Does he know he to launch the car with all the power he's putting down? I know it sounds stupid, but I'm used to seeing dyno queen supras at englishtown that don't running anythign near what there capable of.

Should be a hell of a run. There's a guy on the other forums I use who has a 06 c6z putting 510 to the wheels, and he ran a 10.8 @ 128, so by the sound of it, should be a pretty close run.
Out of curiosity, are you going to Houston Raceway in Sealy, or Baytown?

From a stop the GN will win. a 3.8@500 rwhp will beat a ls7@500rwhp. in the 1/4... at higher speeds..different story.
but you will be hitting your peak power before he will and if you got traction should be able to leave him rather behind off the line.

I will be running at Baytown. There is a friend of mine coming along that will be taping for me. I do have a transbrake in the car and with the extra boost I am hoping for should get another 20-30 to the tires. I am hoping for a run in the 10.5's. All this and 25 miles per gallon on the highway....will drive it to the track.

I figured I would smoke him out of the hole as I reguarlly do 1.5's in my 60ft, but not sure what kind of tires he will be running. If he is running a slick there is a possibility that he can get a pretty good 60 ft time. Based on what he has done I do feel he will not be able to win, but proof is in the pudding....will see soon enough.
And yes, this guy is my age and has been driving performance cars for 20 years...so he can drive well. I just don't think he will be able to muster the 60 ft he needs to win the race.

What I hope is that I can run a bit more timing, and boost due to the meth. If I can it should result in some good power increase. The cryogenic system will fool the car into thinking it is running in cold weather due to the extreme burst of cold that is shot into the intercooler. I usually foot brake the car even though I have a transbrake, but will probably use it this time to get 6 lbs of boost built up for the launch.

If I where you, which I am not, I would change nothing from what you are used to doing. Perfection is achieved by constant repitition. You go swapping crap around for more than what you are used to, you will be actually be equaling out the playing field.
You are in the 10's as you sit right? Driving a 6 speed car into that area is hard to do man. I had a SS that made 720 and NEVER got near that mark do to the ten bolt and lack of suspension. I know you are good as you are. You have a fagmatic and he hAs a new car with a T56. Done deal, money banked baby. The new ZO6 IRS half shafts are weaker than a ten bolt out of a 4th gen Fbody. He can't put to much to the ground without it breaking on him.

Good point, but think I will be ok dialing her in a bit more. I have had this car since new and am pretty consistent with it. My slicks only have about 4 passes on them so are still very nice. Thanks for the input. I have a yearning to really try for a 10.5 this time....got a 10.54 in cool weather a couple years ago so know she can do it.
