Default 95' Eagle Talon TSI - VS - 07' C6 Corvette

This isn't a story about my LS1 but a story about my little 2.0 liter Turbo Talon running a 07' Corvette.

I have had this car in storage for quite a while and went to Austin and trailered it back this weekend. Rolled it out on the driveway and decided to take a run in it. Ended up on 288 S of Houston and highway was pretty isolated and was messing with my boost controller when a Corvette ran by me. I picked it up and set my controller on my mid boost setting of 20 lbs. He slowed down to 60 (I could see him kind of laughing with his buddy in the passenger seat). We hinked and took off...pretty close run and took it to about 110 with me about 1/2 car on him.

Coninued on next line of thread...

Default 95' Talon TSI VS 07' Corvette Cont'd

Well, he rolls down his window and kind of blames his car for not shifting right and decide to go again from 40. I reset my boost controller on the high setting or 27 lbs and we went again. The initial pull was close and then i just started pulling, pulling and pulling. I let off at 120 leading him by about 4 cars.

We pull over and talk for a minute with him flat mezmerized with the loss. He had full exhaust, cold air, and a small cam with a tune saying his car ran 12.2's on the track. He told me that he and his buddy really felt they would run off an leave me, until I told them about the build on this little car. With a good launch my car will run 11.10's.

morale of the story....don't ever undersetimate your opponents ride...especially with the technology out there these days. I have been racing cars for over 20 years and have a hard time racing anyone for money anymore.

Good surpise kill on the vette owner, although if I had a vette with full exhaust, cold air, and a small cam I would prolly act the same way.

Post a mod list on your talon. A bit unclear can't see how you could possibly run 11.10 with the hp numbers in your sig. It should take 500 or more hp to do 11.10.Not dissing here just trying to understand whats up. I know a thing or two about talons if you look at my sig. Is this a low reading mustang dyno or something?

My 97 awd 5 speed has never been track run and is down right now with either spun bearing or grenaded clutch. For mods its got pretty much everything..
2.4 forged yes 2.4 not 2.0. crower 280 cams,jm fab intake, forced performance 3065 turbo, tial 44 external gate and tial blow off. Gm maf and maf translator,Huge fmic.Apexi gt catback and downpipe.950 cc injectors with big lines reg and super tt pump.Dsmlink.I would think mid 12s is about right for 337 at the back.

91 race car talon is auto awd, 2.0 which will be forged up. 950 injectors, supra tt pump, dsmlink. Turbo will be likely bolt on GT35R.jm fab intake, crower 280s,megan downpipe no catback. raceweight around 2700 pounds hopefully.

Anyway I love dsms and f bodies they are both great. Dsms can be high maintenance but oh well still big fun. Can't beat awd in bad weather and off the lights especially if you are on street tires.

I have a complete build at home and can share that tomorrow. I do have a video of the car running (either a Z28 or Mustang) as ran them boith on the track. The time is shown on the video and was before the new turbo. With the old 20g turbo the car ran low 12's. If I can get the video transferred over you can see for yourself. I ran a Z06 at the track after the new turbo and fuel system and and ran 11.2's then. The car will absolutely do exactly what I am saying.

Wow, 500 to the tires on a 25-2600 pound car is huge. John Shepard has the world record running talon hitting 7.6's in the 1/4 and is running about 600 to the tires. I know him and have spoken to him about the cars in the past. He built my drivetrain and is a stage 3 set for up to 600 to the tires. 500 to the tires (with the right tune and fuel) should go high 9's.

The dyno pulls that created the 337 number are probably not completely accurate. I was still tuning a bit on the car when I went down there and have changed my translator, and fuel curves on the car since, and also changed my methanol spray system.....it would do better now. Not 500, but probably closer to 400.

Sorry was talking 500 engine hp or around 400 or so to the back wheels figuring 20% loss but it could be a bit higher on awd. I have no doubt you can get low 12s with a 20g and should be able to get 400 plus engine hp from it. Heck little evo 16 turbo 1g did high 11s at our local track. And for sure can get 11s or 10s from something bigger. Just want to know more about your build, raceweight ,60fts etc sorry if came across the wrong way.

A 50 trim can usually get 400whp . I am hoping for a good 500 whp from my setup when get it dynoed.Possilby 550 to 600 depending on how much spray throw on top . I would have thought Shep had a lot more than 600 whp. Course these cars can get amazing 60fts and you can lighten things down a lot depending on what you are willing to take out of them.So you can make less power work better.
My 91 is trailer only car so will be pretty well stripped out. Sheps car thought was not super stripped down saw it in article once.

Anyway sounds like you have a fun dsm there and for sure pm me or post the full mod list when you get a chance. Also if it was mustang or some other make of dyno they can read much lower than a dynojet.

No worries at all...sounds like you have been around these cars and can appreciate that. I just don't have the build list in front of me and do not remember all the details on this car. Sounds like you are building a class act yourself and should be quite the runner.

Shep's car has well over 1000 AWHP and needs every bit of it to trap over 190 MPH.

Good kill.

Yeah have had a 92 awd 5 speed talon with 50 trim turbo ,650s ,supra tt pump stock cams, apexi n1 catback and downpipe and chipped ecu,maf translator,gm maf,evo intake and o2 housing.
Had some more 1gs that have flipped ,1990 talon awd turbo and lately three laser turbo 5 speeds.

The 97 talon is my baby and for sure a keeper. The 91 race car got for dirt cheap so coudln't say no and it will be my fun track car.

Not sure will play much with 1gs to flip anymore think going to start flipping c5s and work my way up to a personal c6.Still plan on keeping my 99ta,96z and my 97 and 91 talons. You can't have too many toys right!

I hope that mits makes the new eclipse awd and with turbo at some point that may turn out to be my replacement for my 97 talon down the road.
Awd is awesome! Once you experience a good awd dsm launch on stutterbox with antilag even on street tires well its just amazing is what it is. Think the 60ft record for a dsm is like a 1.2 on race tires.Thats not too shabby.

The launch on those AWD cars was quite a learning experience for me....and leaving at 6000 PRMS was another experience. I have the GN as well and usually boost her to about 6-7 lbs on the track before launching but the Talon is crazy.

Sounds like you have a nice array of cars there...congrats!

Check out shepracing.com to see the video of john making his 7.7 pass in his car....sick fast!
