This is nothing new the drag racers have been doing it long long ago. But there is a adjustable weld on bracket I didn't see in that pic. Also the gas tank on a f-body is removed and a tube is welded from fram rail to fram rail.

QA1 makes the kit for are cars.

i dont believe qa1 puts the kit together, those are just the shocks used.
this kit, as the spohn kit doesnt require the removal of the stock gas tank from what ive encountered.

That's basically the same kit that Spohn sells...minus the weld in reinforcement plates (weld in over the stock upper spring pockets). I have it in my thirdgen.

What does this do? Relocate the springs to coil over the shocks?

thats correct... you get the same effect with an adjustable shock and adjustable spring height.

i do not have any pics of the kit at this time... it was lost in a computer crash last month. its just a clevis bracket we build and hardware with a set of shocks and springs. the c/o shocks on my own car are just bolted to the rearend in the stock shock hole with no clevis bracket. it works, but i am doing this on my own car to see what the effect of the setup is on my rearend brackets. the clevis bracket that comes with the kit is a better deal.

So is the shock tower mounting point reinforced/modified? Or is the suspension load being absorbed by the shock tower location now as opposed to the typical remote spring perch location?

i have the same setup on my own car as well as others with no problems. my car sees lots of street use as well as dragstrip and is still fully optioned as it was from the factory with even more weight added. the body panels around the shock mount are 3 or 4 layers thick, and not alot of surface area to flex. strength is not an issue with the mount. same bad rumor as with the tunnel mounted torque arms... too many of them out there working just fine for it to be a problem.

I remember a multi-car "shootout" of modified f-bodies that was organized by Motor trend magazine back in 1994. Doug Rippe Motorsports was using that kind of set-up back then.
