Default What Sway Bar?

ok, doing my rear, i come to find my sway bar in 2 pieces...
i figure i can go used, and have this possibly happen again, or just get a spohn and be set (they're the cheapest with endlinks)

im trying to get an 1le but no luck yet, sphon's 22mm and 25mm are the same price and i never want to buy a part twice so what should i do?

its a DD that hasnt seen track time yet, but it will
racing is mostly straightline but i do push the car to its limits maybe once or twice a yr (only one really twisty road around here that doesnt get much traffic)

and i wont be doing the front sway either
i think the 22mm will be better for handling, but 25 will be better for what im looking for it to do... i know itll kick the rear out sooner, but just how much sooner?

We offer a solid 22mm with bushings for $189.95. Our bars are cold formed for better memory retention. They are available in red or black hammertone. Here is a link to our site.

I've got a red 24 mm with new poly bushings I need to sell, I'm happy with my 22 for DD. Let me know if you're interested by PM.

You want a neutral balance in bar rates unless you're
solely drag racing. So you want to know the front bar
diameter at least, to talk to people. There were at
least a couple of options. Let alone on any car which
might have passed through a few owners.

I like my Strano set, better than the top GM factory
bars for my year; significantly less roll and very well
behaved when pushed.

i have a ws6 32mm bar in my front and a bmr 24mm bar in the rear. car handles way better than before. i believe the factory ls1 z28 sizes were 30mm front and 19mm rear

Only the rear bars interchange from '83-'02. That 21 will work well with a 32 mm front.

get a Suspension Techniques 35mm solid bar or Strano 35mm hollow bar, either will go well with the 21mm rear bar. And again, you cannot use a front bar from a thirdgen.

The car's handling would improve but at the new limit the rear would get loose quick. If you pushed it hard into a curve the rear would slide out with any mistakes.

so the cost of a 32mm sway bar wouldnt have enough of an effect for me to purchase it correct? i mean if it would be night and day, then 60$ ill do, if its an extra 5MPH in a turn, i dont care enough

save up and get the bigger bar. There is no point of going from 30mm hollow to 32mm hollow IMO. But stepping up from 30mm to 35mm solid would be huge. Also, if you don't care about being about to go 5mph faster through a turn then don't do any sway bar upgrade and use the money elsewhere. I almost bought a 32mm 1LE bar and I'm so glad that I wanted and got the ST bar.

10-15mph faster is something, but 3-4 i dont really care, and the reason im asking is because my rear snapped somehow and im just finding out now (swap for a 12 bolt) otherwise i wouldnt be touching suspension (besides TA and LCAs)

upgrading the rear bar without upgrading the front would make the car tail happy, oversteer. Even if you do a 32/21 combo you will not necessarily have a balanced combination and will probably encounter a lot of oversteer. The bigger rear bar will help you at the track (straightline) but the overall setup will not be balanced. Remember, stock 1LEs using a 32/19 combo (only 93 used the 32/21 because they used a different spring rate). The 32/21 combo will only give you a few more MPH through a turn where as a 35/21 will give you exactly what you are looking for (tires are very important also), and the front ST bar is only $126 just really heavy. Most people even go with a 35/19 combo and are very happy with it. I upgraded to a 21mm rear bar because I found a great deal on a bar from an early 80s WS6. But is totally up to you obviously, just don't try to convince yourself that the 32mm bar is going to be enough for you because you might regret it later. Every time I try to convince myself I need the cheaper part or could do without something I always kick myself later.

definitely more fun but can get a little annoying if you have too much. When I was younger and had my thirdgen with a 36/24mm combo and Eibach ProKit springs, just a small tap on the gas while turning and the rear end would fly all over the place.
