Default C5 rear brakes vs. f-body rear brakes

Are the C5 rear calipers/brackets the same as the 98-02 f-body rear calipers/brackets?

I'd rather buy matching red rear calipers to my front C5 Z06 calipers if possible (as opposed to painting the ones I have and them not matching).

The calipers are stiffer because of being pressure cast, so an up grade there. All you will need is the calipers, your F-Bod brackets, pads and lines will work. The C5 brackets are different and will not work on a F-Bod.

C5 rear calipers (calipers only) will bolt on in place of your stock ls1 calipers...i just finished my complete conversion.

Did you use f body pads? Also what clips/retaining springs did you use. I have read that makes a difference.

I used c5 pads and c5 clips...just go to autozone and get the rear pad clip kit for a c5 vette rather than cutting up the f-body ones. Everything went right together with the fbody brackets perfectly.

Did putting the rear C5 calipers shift the brake bias to the rear any? It was discussed in a thread I started a week or so ago so I thought I would check with you.

You have any pics? I would like to see it.

Did you use the C5 or f body rotors?

Caliper piston size is the same between the two calipers. So the bias will not change, You have to use the F-bod rotors, the C5 rotors have a diff offset and will not work. If you are going to put new pads on go with the GM performance ceramic they come with new spring clips and are a very clean pad.

Hello
The mounting holes on the brackets will not line up. I would just recommend save your cash and get the rears powder coated to match the front! Their is very little performance difference compared to the stock other than the nice looks.
That's just my opinion.
Thanks
Brad

Brad,

Are you talking about the C5 brackets not lining up on the f body?

As toadzq8 stated the piston size is the same as an fbody so there is no change in bias. You cannot use the C5 rotor and there is no bracket kit to use that rotor that I know of. Basically switching to a C5 caliper in the rear is a cosmetic mod....

ok, this is good info, but what are the results of switching??? are they more effective?? and do they clear the 16's or do you need to go 17's or larger??

Switching to rear c5 calipers is mostly just to match the front conversion(cosmetic). The c5 rear calipers are slightly better because they are pressure cast aluminum rather than gravity cast like stock fbody rears. As for clearing 16" wheels the rears will but i dont think a c5 front conversion will.

Are the vette pads bigger than the f body pads?

Can someone please post a picture of the rear vette calipers?

I did a search and found one picture. I am looking for the C5 calipers.

Thanks.

the rears really arent worth swapping. 90% or more of your braking is done with the fronts. ive read many people who track or competitively road race their f-bodies upgrade the fronts, and leave the rear BONE stock, other then a pad change.

What if I have lt1 brakes, can I order my 9" with ls1 brake backing plates and put the c5 rear calipers on that? Becuase there is an improvement from lt1 to c5 rear calipers, right?

One of the reasons I thought about doing the rears is so they match(even though I don't know what they look like) and so I can buy a set of Vette pads front and rear.
