I know this thread is a few months old but I dynoed back to back pulls with power steering and without (just used a shorter belt to bypass it). The car picked up 12rwhp without power stearing. Not a bad gain for the cost of a belt.

How tough is it to steer the car on the street with a manual rack? Like will taking a Sunday afternoon cruise give you a full upper body workout?

We have plenty of customers that take their car for a "Sunday Drive" on saturday night , and they all tell me that steering the car with our manual rack is a breeze.

drag car - go for it.
DD - why would anyone even consider it? do you really need 12 more HP ( if thats what you would get) at the cost of making the car a bitch to drive?

to me its in the same category as sportline springs - is the slammed look worth making it ride like a POS? and you have to spend money and do work to make the car worse then it was.

I have a stock rack "unhooked" with 16" snow flakes for my winter and daily driver type duties (I know it's not and "ideal" setup, bit it's all I can afford lol). I have put 4k miles on the car like this, and haven't had any real problems. It can be a pain in the *** on concrete driveways at a stop. Rolling 5mph it's usually not a problem though. I don't regret it at all, but I do have a very high tolerance for a modded car. I drove a 233/239 cammed 6-speed camaro for 60,000+ miles in 2 years with a ram powergrip HD clutch lol.

in all honesty if you dyno'd the car back to back with no change at all i bet you could see a ~5 rwhp fluctuation, so i don't think dyno'ing each 1 time is enough to conclude that you would absolutely free 12 rwhp.
