Default HELP!!!!!1999 trans am header install (time= taken a month and counting!!)

We have tried 2 sets of headers...first set were dynatech's and now pacesetters... haven't been able to figure out the problem/// the headers are hitting the steering shaft...BAD... the only solution that we can come up with is to change the rack and pinion to a 2000-02 because the angle of the steering shaft and rack and pinion are different... can this be done????

I took the steering shaft out.
Also had to loosen the k-member.
But the Pacesetters should just drop in.

the angle of the steering shaft on a 98-99 is different than a 2000-02 because the rack and pinion angle is different and i want to know if i can just put a 2000 or newer rack and pinion in it and it work alright

I would figure the rack would bolt up in place.
I am not sure on the lines working.

Just asking here.
But did they send you the right model header. Both companies have specific part numbers for the 98-99.
Just curious. I'd hate to go through the trouble to chage a rack because someone sent me the wrong part.

they have specific p/n for 98-99 bc they came with the EGR, but I believe they got rid of them in 00-02.
Sorry not able to help with the original question...my kooks went it with no issues on my 99, I deleted the AIR and EGR while installing them also.

Did you change motor mounts? On a 99 t/a motor mounts are likely worn out?

(why did you post this in the suspension area?)

Read here in the exhaust sub section: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...e-posting.html

Most of the header info is here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...rnal-engine-6/

has the car ever been involved in a front end collision?... Possibly could be frame damage causing your k member to angle the steering shaft slightly? Just a guess.
