4th Gen upgrades to handle like a C5/C6
I'm coming up to the crossroads in a few months and trying to figure out if I want to keep my car or get a C6.
A buddy of mine has a C5 which sits pretty low. I drove it 30 miles over a bumpy road and I was impressed. The same road in my Camaro makes it feel like 50 miles.
Wondering can a 4th Gen be set up to handle as good a stock C5/lowered on it's bolts and still give a nice compliant ride over ruff roads?
I don't have pics of his car, but here's an old vid.

are you the one that puts on the standing mile event down in florida?
I will refrain from commenting on the video.
an f body can be made to handle as well or better than a c5 or c6 no problem depending on how much you're willing to invest on well research and well matched parts.

C5's are lighter, better balanced, and have better suspensions. You can't make a 4th gen a C5. Ain't happening. You can make a 4th gen a lot, lot better, and maybe make it do certain things like a Corvette (but don't hold your breath on ride being one).
It'd be a lot more helpful if you could tell us what, specifically you want to see the 4th gen do better. Shocks will help the impact harshness a ton, and make the car a lot more tied down feeling. Bars will make it roll less and transition quicker. Springs will do the same, and pitch less, but with some degradation in ride due to the lesser travel and stiffer rates.

You answered what I was thinking. I was hoping for a smooth ride like the c5s but still sling it around turns without the harsh ride. I do a couple autox's here and there and the same for HDPEs, but my favorite thing to do is cruise long distance to GA for the lovely roads up there and after driving a C5, the bug has got me.
Thanks for the input.

You can easily make your F-body pull the same G's as a C5/C6 Corvette "in ideal track conditions" but on the road as you described where there are a lot of irregularities you just can't compete with an IRS using a solid rear axle.
Ideal shock valving matched with the correct springs and swaybars will get you really close assuming the rest of your car is tight to begin with (STB, SFC's, LCA's and PHR).

Ahh... So how are these better than factory bumpstops?

So what's the "front U.M.M."?

Front Upper Mount Mod :
https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspensio...ock-mount.html
Using either the 55mm Koni bump stops(about $18 ea.), or the GroundControl soft strut bumps stops($12 ea. and slightly stiffer than the Koni 55mm BS's) on the rear Koni SA shock shafts will allow more suspension travel, and a smoother transition onto the bump stops then the factory bump stops.
FYI, this is with the Stock 10 bolt rear, with a 9", 12 bolt, D60 rear you would need longer BS's.

Thanks. So would it be a bad idea to leave the factory bumpstops and add the Koni or GC bumpstops in the rear? Is there any negatives to the Koni rear bumpstops and their additional suspension travel on a NON-lowered Camaro?
I also have to wonder why Strano doesn't bundle the Koni rear bumpstops with the rear shocks? In fact, I didn't even find them offered on his website.
TIA

You won't get the car to turn into a corvette. You can definitely improve the LS1 handling though over stock. Stock suspension is pretty lame.
If you really want the car to handle well, I'd strongly suggest going with someone who really knows what they are talking about like Sam Strano for advice and ideas and toss almost all the other advice from the average Joes around here out the window. Or at least figure out who it is your taking advice from first.

While you certainly wont get the IRS feel and control, or the center of gravity you can improve the handling enough to compete with some high end cars, and for relatively little money... Simple things like shocks will make huge changes in handling, feel and control.
Heres Sam's cars:
