Default Abnormal Poly bushing wear ? Pics*

Hello, I bought this 98' SS last summer. I know there are a few little things the previous owner put on it ....... some of these parts & modifications I have found on the car were done right ...... but some were half assed.
I have a question for anyone that has these red poly bushings installed.
Looking at these pictures , is this normal wear on these bushings ? OR .....
Were these improperly installed ?
I ask because I'm going to replace them....... & if the were installed wrong I want to make sure I don't mess up like the previous person.
Thanks Ya'll. Pics were taken with my I-phone.... bare with meh ...

it almost looks like the sway bar was installed upside down or something judging by the angle of the end link

^ exactly what i was thinking. If your going to replace those, replace the bushings on the chassis as well, and take the whole bar off and make sure it was installed correctly.

I actually thought that it kinda looked up-side down while I was underneath the other day changing a trans mount..........
But I stopped myself & thought ...... "Who the hell installs swaybars upside down?"

Yes the other side looks exactly the same.

Thats how those cheap ES bushing look after a few thousand miles with the stock rubber mounts. Mine stopped doing that once I got poly mounts as well. I always replaced mine now and again, they just warp and deform a lot.

Fellas, look closely at the pictures.....

The end of the bar, right where the bushings sit, is twisted. How it got that way is anybody's guess, but that's the problem.....

It's not as crazy as you think. Years ago, when I was helping out a friend with a Chevelle oval track car, I noticed that he installed the bar upside down, in an extreme effort to get any unspring weight as low as possible.

In his case, he flipped the bar, and ran the endlinks to the underside of the a-arms. However, the car wasn't street driven, over bumpy roads or up steeply angled driveways, so that loss of ground clearance wasn't an issue.

Either bent or upside down. Seriously I'd take the bar off and flip it over, if both sides are like that it makes me suspect it is upside down.

That was my first thought, they look a little short. Measure the spacer in between the bushings and let us know what the length is. Our spacers we supply with our end links for this bar are around 2-3/8" long.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

If it was upside-down, it would not pass under the differential case.

Hey

^ +1 Exactly @ the pumpkin, the bend would be going up, not down and the rest of the bar would be hanging pretty low if installed upside down. The ends do look bent, comparing it to pics on UMI's web site. Here is just an example, as they have lots of good photos on there. Looks like you need a new one.

I'm sorry I thought that was the front bar. My bad.

Here's something else then. I would guess the end links are too short, and here's why:

When I swapped my rear for the upgraded one, my original end links were bad (no surprise). Well, the rear that I got had some end links on it. We went to use those, BUT we found out they were way too short for the bar to mount properly. It looked like what you've got there. My original end links where much longer.

I'll bet you've got the same issue now that I look at it. I'll bet you've got the wrong end links and need the standard longer ones.

Interested to hear if the bar is upside down. We get a surprising amount of calls about upside down rear swaybars!

Thanks for all your reply's & suggestions! Apologies for a delayed response, I am @ work offshore doing a few pipeline abandonments at the moment........ should be back on the beach in a few days.

I will pull it off when I get home & do a mock up with it the other way & take some good before & after pics for ya'll. I'll get that measurement while I'm down there also.
Thinking about upgrading a few things while I'm back there.

Not sure if that is upside down but the end where the two bushings are sitting currently definitely looks tweaked like other people have said.
