Default Bilstein HD's, where does this part go?

See the picture below. I bought brand new front Bilstein's and they came with no instructions. I just need to know where this piece goes and what holds it in place. How does it go on in relation to the factory dust boot that I am reinstalling. Thanks, and yes I did a search first but I could only come up with pictures and videos of people with the spring and strut already assembled and couldn't see where this part went.

Would it really hurt these companies to include some minimal instructions?

Yeah, you would think that would be the case.

The piece will fit over the top of the shock body but it would have to be hammered on as it is a very tight fit. I don't think it goes there as I don't see what purpose it would serve.

I think it goes at the top of the shock because it fits perfectly inside the upper coil of the spring, but then the question would be what holds it in place.

BUMP! Doing the install and wondering the same thing. I'm guessing the 1st reply is right and I'm moving forward as if it is but please let me know if I'm missing something.

Yes, hammer it on to the top of the shock.

I believe they ship it that way so that the shock mount will slide on without interference, and then it just gets hammered on top of the shock

Yes, it just hammers on the top of The shock. I ended up calling Bilstein and confirming that this is where it went
