Do you drive it on the street often? Do you want handling? Ride quality? Weight transfer?

What tires are you going to run? What shocks are you running in the front? The Koni's are nice shock I ran them for a long time. We made many 10 sec passes with them. We switched to the Affco's when the rear suspension was updated. The problem we were having was the car would hook then unload and spin.
The Afco's come with some cheap rubber bushings just throw them away. You have to weld on a shock mount unless you order the new model for F-bodys. The Afco's have more adjustability and are a more suited for drag racing. We drive them on the street and they act fine. I ordered the Afco's from Mad Man.
This past weekend with new Hossier slicks we cut our first 1.4 60'

yeah i think koni is better suited for daily/autox. i may be wrong and get blasted for this, but to me strange just seem like revalved QA-1's.
i hear good things about the affcos for drag.

Whose coil over kit are you going to use? I'm still running the stock springs.
Should be a blast to drive. With wheeelie bars or with out?

Your best bang for the buck is Strange shocks by far, to comment on someone comparing them to a QA1 shock, not even close in comparison. Quality between the two is a huge difference.
Afco also is a great shock and we run them on a few different vehicles here and sold a ton to customers, no one has any completes so far. To do double adjustable Strange or Afco you need a transverse lower shock mount because of the **** configuration. We make them to fit many different housings
We have a pro-touring 70's Chevelle in the shop we built a rear end with a watts link, arb, and some other things as well as put a cage in it and they bought Vari shock and all though I have no testing opinion on them they look like a good shock but they are costly compared to other choices on the market.

If you are going fab up the mounts then you will have more choices. I would look into the Affco's or Konis. You will have to pick your spring rate. What class are you running? A 10.5 or 8.5 heads up class by chance. What are you doing for the rest of the rear suspension. I'm thinking coil overs will eliminate you from the stock suspension classes.
