Chatter Clip Question I just got done doing an LS1 brake swap on my LT1. The calipers I am using did not have the upper clip in place when I got them. I am wondering as to how that piece gets put back in?
Does it get put (clipped) over the pads as they sit, or does it stay in the upper-middle part of the caliper and then you just push it down? If the latter, how do you keep it from falling out when the caliper is put into place? I know it sounds like a goofy basic question, but since they weren't in the caliper to begin with I have no frame of reference of how they should fit back in, and, I am only familiar with brake pad replacement on the LT1 cars.

I've had a copy of that article that I used as a guide but it really doesn't give much insight to the placement of that upper clip.
I guess I just need to know whether that upper clip fits over the pads themselves and then the caliper comes down, or whether it is just left in the caliper and then pushed down onto the pads.
The LS1 brake swap install itself was a piece of cake.

Sorry, but I'm not sure which clip you are talking about.

I have only changed my rear brakes so far.
If that is it. just slide it inplace and then slide in the pads.
This picture isnt the caliper. Its the mounting bracket.
I dont remember any other clips.

Those are the side clips, those ones are self-explanatory. The one I am talking about fits into the upper middle section of the caliper itself and either rests on top of the pads, or clips around the pads at the halfway point.
The second pic you show is more like it, except that those are the back calipers. Same idea though.

I edited my post with a link that has more pictures. One of which should show the clip you are talking about. Is this the front or rear brakes? The pictures are of the rear brakes.

The clip snaps into the caliper, and sort of presses down on the top of the brake pad. I heard the only way to get those clips is by getting the Z06 pad set from GM.
When I did my C5 Brake conversion I got the Z06 pads just for that reason.

Luckily I figured out the problem yesterday morning on a spare set of calipers I had laying around....and now I have to laugh at myself
Funny how someone can take an entire car apart and put it back together, but a simple little clip can confuse the heck out of 'em. My problem was that I thought the clip held the pads. Then yesterday, I got the bright idea to snap it into the caliper LOL
I was able to get a full set of the clips from my chevy dealer when I ordered just regular stock Z28 replacement pads, they were in the box with the pads.
