I never personally used the Ceramics but I know the HPS pads worked well on the street. They're not the greatest pad for autocross or anything like that, but they were a sufficient improvement in bite on the street. Increased dust, that's for sure. The HP Plus pad was better and the StopTech pads were better than both for me.
Don't know anyone who has ever used the Ceremic pads, come to think of it.

I have the ceramics on my 98 TA, stock setup. Mine squeaked pretty bad for the first 5000 or so miles, took it apart to check everything, and they were lubed properly. I get a large amount of brake dust contrary to the other responders. However, i may of just gotten a bad set who knows. I wont personally put them on another vehicle.

Ceramics are a step above stock replacement pads. I ran the GM ceramics along time ago and they worked great, no dust or squeaks.
The Hawk HPS are alittle better then the ceramics, but the HP plus are even better. They have a higher temp rating then the others, they do eat rotors and dust like crazy. HP plus are on my car presently. They are rated for street driving and mild competition.
The deal with racing brakes are they need alot of heat in them to bite. They won't get up to temp. on the street. Your first stop leaving your driveway may be real exciting as well as the oh sh-t stop on the freeway as traffic comes to a halt unexpectedly.
Don' t use road race brakes at the drag strip they won't work!!!. A good street pad is best or a drag only pad which isn't the best for the street.
