Question Emergency brake rubber dust boots on the rotors?

On my girlfriend's car the dust boots on the ebrake are damaged/ ripped open. I also hear what sounds like a low brake pad scrape (metal on metal). I have inspected the brakes/ caliper pins (regreased just to be safe but they had plenty of grease)/ pads and rotors and all are good.

So I am wondering if the noise may be due to a sticking or seized parking brake from dust getting into the damaged boot? The handle goes up and down and I can see the the cable pulling and releasing on the rotor. Car is a 2002 trans am at.

about 55mph and faster. It doesn't make noise below that BUT I also hear like a garbage disposal sound when I take her car on left turns coming from the back but only through the turn, then it stops.

Maybe it is an axle bearing? Her car seems slower than before but I don't drive it much so it could just be in my head.

Yea, probably. I'd expect brakes to make noise at slow speeds.

Is it possible for the emergency brake to bind and produce drag on the rotor? I have not heard of this happening?

I know that this is an old post but if you are still looking for the parking brake lever dust boots I have a pair available and I can get more. The company, RMS, that was mentioned by another member is no longer in business.

Can you share where people can purchase more? It took us a very long time to track down RMS!

Quick Google search of the Part Number: GM 12454994
Leads to a bunch of websites like GMParts Direct, Rock Auto Etc(couldnt find it yet on there) but other places as well. Think the Part number is gonna be key to write down or keep somewhere.

This is the entire kit. We're talking about just the boots. GM only offers a brake pad replacement kit and the entire brake assembly kit.

I have not heard of any commercial suppliers, yet. If you ask this question in the classifieds, you may find a member with some to sell.

Due to multiple issues we've had with this thread and our classifieds policy, we're going to lock it.

If anyone is looking for boots, please use the Classified's section of the site. If anyone finds a commercial supplier or sponsor selling these items, please contact me or another moderator and we can re-open the thread.
