Default Didn't have wheel hop...Now I do

I bought this trans am back in march. The gasket on the 10 bolt was leaking when I got it. I spun the tires a bit before getting it fixed, and I had no wheel hop. Got the gasket replaced. Did a few 2-5k launches. Still no wheel hop. A couple of weeks ago I was pulling out of a parking lot and wanted to kick out the rear. Floored it at about 15 while turning and I got nothing but wheel hop. I stopped and tried a few launches. Wheel hop every time. Only time it doesn't hop is if the road is VERY wet. The. Car is lowered a couple of inches. I know that lca and relocation brackets will help with any lowered car, but I'm trying to figure out why it is hopping now with no change? Is my rear end going? Was the gasket not replaced properly and all the oil leaked out? I have no idea. I'm leaving for the beach Saturday and I don't want my rear to break while I'm 150 miles from home.

My old 98 started to wheel hop on the street really easily. My factory LCA bushings were shot, so bad that when I took the LCAs off the car the bushings just fell out

It could be anything.. if your shock damping wears out then that increases wheelhop too.

Could be the LCA bushings, among several other things.

Hell, it could even be the surface of the street you tried launching on.

I don't think the weather or road surface is a factor. I'm guessing the bushings on the lcas are the problem. I know the tie rods were shot when I bought the car, so I could see the lca bushings being just as bad. My hard driving must have pushed them over the edge. So just to clarify, there is pretty much no chance my rear end is broken and causing the hop? If so, that's a relief. I know my 10 bolt is on borrowed time with my 400rwhp all motor and 500+ on spray, but I'm not ready to buy a m9 or strange this month.

Relocation brackets (since your lowered) and new solid rubber LCA bushings should help.

Why don't you think weather can effect the wheel hop? You know that cold vs warm temperatures can effect how much traction you have right?

How old are the tires, as they age they become harden and will cause bounce/hopping , my tires are old and hard but get good milage

Would imbalanced wheels/tires enhance wheel hop?

The tires were probably really old. They had dry rot on them when I bought the car. I wasn't saying weather doesnt factor into wheel hop, I just meant that it isn't a factor in my case. It was the same average temperature before and after the wheel hop started. I just got new wheels and tires two days ago and I'm scared to try and see if I'm still getting wheel hop. Now that I'm running some 295s, I don't wanna hook and rip my rear out.

I'll actually dump the clutch tomorrow and see if I get any wheel hop. I'm thinking it will still hop because of how wide the new tires are.

^^Not necessarily. Wheel hop is caused by rapid gain and loss of traction. If your car just hooks and doesn't spin at all, then no wheel hop.

Well I still get wheel hop after the new tires. Ordering lcas and relo brackets when I get home from vacation this weekend. Good news is that I now hook from about 30mph. Before that I was hooking at 45+. I'm very happy with the 295/35r18 nitto invos. Now I just gotta remove my bump stops and hammer my fenders so my tires don't get ruined. It's rubbing pretty bad on turns and bumps, but I'm at the beach and there's nothing I can do about it here.
