Default Dark spots on my rotors?

Hello guys, hope you all are doing good, ok here is the deal, I recently bought rotors and pads from brakemotive, they have been on the car for maybe 500 miles and the driver side front rotor has a couple of black spots what could it be?
Thanks in advance.

Hello there! Sounds like a rotor "hot spot" to me. Not uncommon on a set of rotors that weren't properly bedded in, or from extreme use. Unfortunately, the damage is done. This accumulation of pad materiel on the rotor surface alters the metal composition underneath so even if you resurfaced the rotor, the hot spots would be back. You'll probably notice a pulsation in braking because of this. It's commonly referred to as "warped rotors" which is a misnomer or what's actually going on. No safety precautions, so rest easy. Just keep an eye on them and don't let it go too far.

what is a general break in procedure? 4-5 60-0 stops then 100-0? not slam on the brake stops either, just normal braking.

That's what those are. Rotor hot spots. You should be OK, but I wouldn't be surprised if you begin to feel it through the pedal under braking or they grow larger over time.

I don't know. Typically they won't be covered under warranty, but you'll need to speak with who you bought them from.

They have the break-in procedure in a document somewhere (I think I had it included in the box they shipped mine in). You do not come to a complete stop when doing it. IIRC it is something like 3 heavy braking from 60-10, in rapid succession, then 3 moderate from 35-5 then just drive a bit to let them cool for a min or two. you don't want to come to a stop right away.

If you did it the way you mentioned that definitely could have been the cause of the hot spots.

i braked severely on mine did the proper "break-in" and i got hot spots on the outer edges of my rotors, i have the same as you. i can feel a little bit of the warped rotors in very light braking... nowhere else though. mine are still stoppin on the dime and give ya 9 cents o' change, rubberballs on the backs of my shoes settin my pants on fire

Are they really "hot spots", or are they an indication of poor grade metallurgy?!

Cheap quality made in China metal?

^^ i was wondering also. I bought cheap **** $125 for all 4 shipped and I have them for maybe 2 years with no issues. Just slapped them on and started jammin. No more warped rotors.

Still better than buying auto zone or equiv. "factory style" rotors... still made in china. and are far worse for performance. i can tell you first hand, they are night and day from "stock" and way cheaper than what you would pay in a store guaranteed!

fine a made in U.S.A. rotor and let me know....

Yeah pretty much. If there was a made in USA set of brakes that was also good quality well then I'd be more apt to get those. But when they're all made in China, well... Brakemotive has a good track record, possible they had a bad batch maybe? Dunno. I've had no issues with any of their brakes so far, neither has my boss and he is really hard on stuff lol.

Mine had bad spots too. I followed their break in procedure exactly. They sent me new rotors under warranty. Have yet to install the new ones yet to see if they repeat the issue.
