Default How much are you guys paying to have the 2010+ camaro rotors opened to 70.6mm??

I found a machine shop yesterday who can open up the hub diameter to 70.6mm and he quoted me approximately $65 a rotor to do it depending on setup time and tooling.

I looked at him like WTF and said they cost that new. He countered with let's see how long it takes.

So how much are people paying to have them modded to the correct hub diameter?

They do, but the pads don't fit properly when using CTS-V 4 piston brembos and you also have to shim out the caliper due to the rotor sitting further out.

So I went with a rotor, as have many others, that was designed to be used with the caliper and pads and have the hub opened up from the 5th gen camaro size of ~67.xx mm to the 4th gen hub size of 70.6mm.

I wasn't aware of anyone doing that. Indeed the pads don't sweep across the full surface, but there are actually many cars that come from the factory that don't - like the SN95 Mustang brakes. I'm curious to see the difference between the two as far as how the pads contact.

Well, total was $137.80 to do both. OUCH. Oh well, thankfully I won't have to do this for quite some time considering I drive the car roughly a thousand miles a year.

I thought I over paid for mine when I paid $20-$25 each, I do not remember the right amount because it has been a while since I got it done. I can't wait to see pictures of your set up when its all done.

With any luck, I'll mock them up this weekend and measure for how much spacer I need. Once I get the spacer, I can complete the install.

Where do yo live Jenson and do you have access to the equipment to do it?

I understand that it requires a rather large lathe chuck to be able to hold a 14" rotor and open up the hub diameter, and it takes time to do that setup, but I guess it came out to around an hour each rotor.

It is what it is. This hobby isn't cheap, so in the end, what's another $130 after spending as much as I have to setup the car.

It's honestly easier and quicker to setup on the cnc mill. I'm doing the same thing for mine and am going to make a 5x120, bolt the rotor down, and that's it. I also have a large manual lathe with a 6 jaw chuck that could do it too. If I make the fixture for myself, it'd realisticly only cost any one else $25 total now that I thijk about it. It'll be a 5 minute program. I found a cheap set of rotors from raybestos, should have them soon

Sounds like you have access to a lot of nice equipment Jenson. Honestly, I called around and didn't have much success, and once I found a guy who could do it, I pulled the trigger.

just out of curiosity, has anyone ever thought of turning the hubs down? like taking off your stock hubs, and have them turned down to 67mm instead of opening the rotor?

If you do that you would need to get new wheels or hub centric wheel rings, and if a spacer is needed you would need to find the proper hub centric spacer.

Yes, I realize that, but it's not something I wanted to take a grinder to and just hack up.

Wow, I only paid $20 to get both done at a machine shop in Richmond, VA. It was a 10 min job to do both on his lathe. I feel for ya man. Let us know how your set-up turns out.

Yeah, I overpaid, no doubt. Hopefully it's not something I'll need to do again for a while.

Plus you'd have to press out the studs to turn down the hub. A lot more work. Look forward to seeing yours done Alchemist
