The question is, for what year are you talking about?

For instance for 2001, from GM Document ID: 1844339 (#01-00-89-014A: Chevrolet Camaro SS, Chevrolet Camaro RS, Pontiac Firebird Firehawk, Pontiac Firebird GT Warranty Administration Process - (Jun 27, 2006)):

" • Auburn High Torque Performance Differential (includes AAM aluminum cooling cover, revised magnet and vent tube)

• Bilstein Ultra Performance Suspension System (includes front and rear Bilstein shock, progressive rate springs, revised rear lower control arms, 35mm front sway bar and revised attachments, 21mm rear sway bar and bushings)

• 1LE suspension (offered exclusively by SLP, includes double adjustable Koni shocks, production rate springs, revised rear lower control arms, 35mm front sway bar and revised attachment, 21mm rear sway bar and bushings, front upper and lower control arms)
"

So is "production rate springs" merely a GM typo?

98/99 SS & WS6 had 1LE springs, along with very early '00 SS/WS6. After that the softer springs used in the Formula/Z28/Trans Am were standard on SS/WS6. 1LE was also discontinued in 00.

The 01-02 SS/WS6 had the softer springs by default, and if 1LE was added as an SLP option, the front springs were replaced with the 1LE springs, but the rear springs were the same as a base Z28 or Formula. The rear sway bar was upgraded to the 21mm to compensate.

FWIW 94-99 1LE cars didn't have the 21mm rear bar; they use the smaller bar that is standard on the Z28, and the stiffer rear springs. Neither GM nor SLP ever built a fourthgen with both the 21mm rear bar and "1LE springs".

That is in conflict with what the GM document says which I quoted above.

I understand that, but I have in my possession springs pulled from a 2002 SS 1LE early in its life. The PN's are 1LE front springs (actually the LT1 P/N but so was my 1998 1LE Z28 from GM) and the base Z28 rear springs.

This was verified on 3 or more other cars. I ran 1le.net long ago.

EDIT: FWIW GM shipped the cars to SLP with the base springs, and SLP swapped them out for 1LE springs. Actually they swapped out the whole shock/spring assembly, which is where the takeoffs came from.

Interesting, could GM be wrong? Well if anyone really cares to get the story from SLP direct, email Hank Daniecki, Director of Engineering at SLP Specialty Vehicles, and be sure to post what he says here: hdaniecki@slpcars.com If anyone would know, I sure hope he would.

What is amusing is SLP put out an ad showing all the parts they replaced for 1LE, and it showed upper/lower front LCA's, rear LCA's, the Koni's, and all four springs.

I can even provide the VIN #'s for 2 or 3 of the sample cars.

EDIT: One of the cars checked was 2G1FP22G022126252, orange 2002 SS 1LE.

EDIT2: The ad photo I was talking about

An 01 SS 1LE I visually verified the spring P/N's on is: 2G1FP22G212138773

I do recall that photo from their site in recent years...

It could be a GM typo, I expanded the quote above, and note they say "progressive rate springs" for the Bilstein package...

What is the difference between standard front upper/lower control arms, and 1LE front upper/lower control arms?

The steel is the same, the bushings are different.

Ah I see. Do you know what makes them special? Are they urethane or some other material or design versus the standard rubber?

I'm guessing the 1LE rear control arms and pan hard rod are the same? (Standard stampings, with different bushings)
