Default Replace bushings

Hi,I have a 99 transam and in the process of replacing all the bushings, and have a problem with the lower control arm. How do you get the lower control arm bolt out as I have undone the nut at the bottom of the bolt and then used a hammer to tap bolt out and it does not want to move, i have managed to take a photo of the top of the bolt, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Isn't that the lower control arm...?

Did you unbolt the sway bar link and the shock from the lca...?

Can you support (or lift) the front of the lca as you try to punch out the bolt from the rear.

Sorry yea lower control arm, yes have done all of the above but bolt does not seem to want to budge, have soaked bolt with wd 40 but no joy, thanks for getting back to me.

It appears that you're referring to the vertical bolt at the rear of the control arm, also known as the "caster bolt". They have a known reputation for "welding" themselves to the metal sleeve in the bushing.

Soak that bolt with PB Blaster for a couple of days, then after you get everything else disconnected, loosen the nut on the bottom side of the a-arm, slide the arm as far outward as it will go, then wail on the end of the bolt with a 3 pound sledge hammer. It that doesn't work, there might be a reciprocating saw in your future....

Yeah I had to cut my lower control arm bolt out when I rebuilt my front end. It sounds like you'll have to do the same.

+ 1 for reciprocating saw, I had to do that to mine. A sledge hammer wouldn't budge mine.

Same here, I had to use a $15 diamond tooth sawzall blade from lowes to cut the bushing and bolt In half. It wasn't gonna come out easy. It took a minute to cut but eventually worked. A regular metal blade didn't make a mark. I had to use the diamond blade.

I bought new bolts from a gm dealership

Default bmr a-arms

Hi gus, well couldn't get those bolts out from the lower a-arms so i ordered new bmr a-arms and rear control arms yesterday, so now waiting till they shipped here to the united kingdom before i go ahead and get the old bolts cut out, don't know how easy or best way to do that yet.

Iv'e had this car from new so trying to keep it like new with better aftermarket parts where needed.

Ok got a can of that pb blaster and soaked the bolts for half an hour then hit them with a lump hammer and out they came, Fitted the new BMR A-ARMS and also the rear control arms and well pleased with them.

Car now handles great, prior to replacing bushings and a-arms I had a problem with break judder which I replaced with erraddi speed discs but judder was still there, so I put up with it for a few years and all the time I kept thinking maybe the bushings are worn and causing the break judder.

So now I have replaced all bushings and also a-arms ( which already came with bushings fitted in them) and also fitted adjustable Koni sports to go with my eibach lowering springs and the break judder has completely gone.
Best money I have spent as car now drives and handles like a race car.
Very very happy.

Hi, yea great quality products from you guys, I had the dreaded warped discs from new then a few years later I replaced them with erraddi speed discs but still had that judder when the brakes were applied, so I lived with it for several years all the time thinking it's got to be the bushings so have now replaced with new a-arms and all bushings and brakes are perfect.
