Default Hawk HPS 5.0

Ive recently installed Hawk hps 5.0 pads on all 4 corners of my car. The car stops great now, but the brakes squeal all the time. Even if I drive for a long period it seems like it only gets louder. Any advice on getting them to quite down?

Yep they are crazy loud on my SRT8. Only the rears though. After 4 months of torture. I replaced the rears with a difcerent brand and all is quiet now.

Its really a shame, because they perform extremely well. I hope I can figure out a way to quite them down at least a little.

Get some one to walk beside and you brake slowly and I bet it is rears like mine was. Buy a cheap rear pad, swap them out and that may fix it up. They say they are quiet, but they are full of it. Noisiest pad I have ever owned.

I have them on my car as well, but I don't have any squeal. How much brake pad grease did you put on the backside of the pad?

I was going to run these pads this summer, but what would your thoughts be on if you had to deal with these pads everyday? Are they too noisy to deal with all the time or just enough that you notice it every time you stop.

I've been hearing good things about Stoptech's street pads

I didnt get the 5.0 but I got the HPS when I did my V conversion and they have been great. The first 100 miles they squealed a little bit but don't anymore. Are you sure you broke them in right? Used enough anti-squeal?

I didnt really do anything special to brake them in, maybe thats where i F'd up. I think I used a decent amount of anti-squeal. I think Im gonna try pulling them off this weekend and making sure there is no dirt or anything like that, and add some more grease.

Not likely the break in. I have bedded 100s of sets and did the same on mine. I took mine apart and redid the grease/anti squeal 3 times. Each with a different product. None worked.

On mine it was flat out the rear pads only.

I've had luck in the past with the red stuff that sets up tacky and firm on the back of the pads make sure to let it tack up real good maybe wait a day to drive it. Worth a shot before buying new pads.

You still have the stock rotors/sliding calipers on the back?

Im gonna try and see if I have the same issue. What kind of pad did you end up putting on the back?

As mentioned this was on my DD SRT8 Magnum. So it was on the factory fixed 4 piston Brembos.

I have not used these on my Firebird. I use race pads on it, which have be various compounds from Carbotech since 2004. In a few weeks I am going to try the Carbotech off shoot G-Loc on the car.

I think they were Wagner Thermoquiets.

Not at all. The fronts do the most work.

On the F Bodies we have too much rear brake. In fact when you race them lots of people run less pad in the rear on purpose. Last year I ran Carbotech XP12 on the front and XP10 on the rear.

Very common to run a more aggressive front pad.

Yes, I need to pay better attention!

WOW, yet another brake pad company?!

Are they above, or below the Carbotechs in price points per compound type/use??

Two of the guys left Carbotech and formed G-Loc. One reseller is listing the G-Loc compounds as being the same as the Carbotech, with a different name but slightly lower cost. At this point I don't understand the benefit other than slightly lower cost.
