Default WS6 Rack and Pinion in reg Trans Am?

I bought a 2000 T/A the other day that has an aftermarket rack and pinion in it. The problem is I've had close to 10 fbody's now and this thing has a wider turning radius than my full size truck. Car drives completely straight, Imy guessing the new rack has a different gear ratio in it, I don't know though... anyways my question is does any body know what the problem could be and has anyone ever put a ws6 rack in a regular T/A?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure both the ws6 and a regular TA have the same rack

I didn't think they did. I used to have an 01 ws6 and I had to swap the rack out, the first one I got would not line up with the steering shaft and later found out it was a t/a rack. I just figured if I do end up having to swap the rack to get rid of this problem then I'd get the ws6 one for the better turning radius.

Depends on what rpo code it specs. My 99 T/A had the same rack as a WS6.

Sounds like you got the wrong year steering rack. The 93-97 racks are different than the 98 and up. The difference is in the steering shaft output location and angle.

The Ws6 rack is the same as the regular Trans Am rack. So yes, one from a 98-2002 Ws6 would bolt in directly in place of your regular rack.

also dont get a base v6 steering rack as they will not clear the alternator on a LS

unless it is from a y87 car (v6 performance RPO) then the car came equipped with the ls steering rack.
