Is it worth changing out rear brakes
In the process of ordering my rear and with the mwc sale going on i could get a strange setup on the rear for 450. Car is a weekend warror. I also could sell my stock backing plates i have and recoop a chunk of that money back, since im pretty sure strange uses different mounting. I will do the fronts probably strange as well later down the road. So basically, how much better performance will i get doing 4 wheel swap for strange setup over stock setup? Any reviews on strange vs other setups are appreciated?

Also i noticed the strange rears are a 4 piston on an 11.25 rotor vs the stock 1 piston 12 inch........which is better? It would seem obvious that a bigger rotor is, but maybe its smaller because its considered a race brake so maybe for smaller diameter rims with larger sidewall

Strange makes a dual caliper setup as well. If you're wanting more stopping power that might be the best option.
Oh and you'll lose your parking brake / e-brake with the strange rear brakes.

I have the Strange setup on all 4 wheels. I was able to get $175 on ebay for my complete/cleaned/painted backing plates. Stopping power is supposed to be on par with a properly performing stock setup. They do get hot quick though because the rotors are so thin, but not too big of a deal.

You will almost always lock up the rear before the front given the same pads on the front and rear. The serious road race guys will run an aggressive front brake setup and a stock rear brake setup for this reason.

Thanks for the info and sorry to the OP for the semi-hijack of the thread. I have LS fronts with Hawk pads and stock LT rears with parts store pads at the moment. I have a set of Hawk race compound pads for the rear that someone gave me - I'll leave them in the box.

Strange brakes are lightweight. They are not designed to give improved braking. They are designed to give good braking while saving 75lbs. They are essentially drag brakes, you cant go crazy on them.

^ My brother has Strange brakes on the rear of his car because he's running a 15in rim. I have no idea how they perform but I believe probably just as good as OEM, or at least right around there. And yeah, Strange brakes are nice and lightweight so that's a good plus right there

Lots of people drive them on the street including me. Be smart and no issues. The pedal goes away as they warm up so you can tell easily BEFORE you overheat them. Just touch the pedal, if they bite hard they are cold, if they feel less responsive the are warming up, if you have to really get down on the pedal they are getting hot. Pretty simple. Since the backs do so little work I wouldnt worry about them, its the fronts I think will overheat first anyway.

To 01's point, I'd take into account how much stop and go traffic you drive in. I'm in a small town, rural setting so my drive consists of almost no traffic and virtually no stop and go so my brakes never really heat that much. If you are use to heavy stop and go driving like in a larger city then its a judgement call on what you feel comfortable with.

Yep, I dont travel at rush hour and do lots of hwy or out of the city driving so it's never an issue. If I was forced to drive where the brakes were getting too hot I'm fully prepared to pull out of traffic and let them cool if need be.
