This will cover upgrading our ls1 F body front brakes to the gen 1 CTS V calipers and the 14 inch 5TH Gen Camaro rotors.

Awesome video Alex! This will help me out a ton with the install. Sticky for sure! Also are those 54mm offset wheels on the front you have installed with the 5mm spacer?

Thanks so much guys.

Yes those are or wheels 18 inch with the 54mm offset. Yes 5mm spacer. Honestly if they made it a 2-3mm spacer would be fine. I have a ton of room with the 5mm.
Looks great! !

Car is night and day as far as stopping.I plan a stopping test video vs a st

P.S. I'm one of those newbs that just purchased ebay rotors.. Costed alittle under $200 for the pair so if they arent quite as good as those carbon rotors then Im fine with it lol.

I am still in process of getting my calipers powder coated, once they're back then we get to see how she performs.

Also subbed, more videos like this please

What would be different if I were to go with a CTS-V 6 piston setup?

Thanks a lot. In the future I'm going to do a braking test video. My car with the upgrade vs a stock f body using one set of wheels / tires to make it fair.

You could totally go with the gen 2 6 piston setup. I didn't just due to the higher cost. Also I have read that for road racing many people actually prefer the 4 piston calipers.

I'm not 100% sure on the install as I haven't done it.
In my research it's pretty similar though

Excellent job! I suggest also adding this video to the existing sticky thread on CTS-V brake conversions. This would be a great illustration there and gives some updated options for parts over the early posts.

The only thing that changes are the following:
  • You will have to run 09-14 CTS-V Rotors on the front (I can't remember if you have to hone out the hub on those or not)
  • Your Calipers are slightly thicker and larger so they will be closer to the wheel spokes than the 04-07 CTS-V Brake Calipers which means you may need a slightly larger wheel spacer or offset but I'm highly doubting it because they're not thicker by even a moderate amount, just enough to know that its present... As far as spacing is concerned the general conscience is that whatever works for the Gen I Calipers, will also work for the Gen II.
  • You MAY need washers, I wasn't clear about this, but be prepared.
  • The conversion Brake Lines are the same.
  • You're going to hate how puny your rear brakes are going to look.

Awesome video! Also totally jealous of your garage! subscribed! I hope to see more like this!

I got to test these brakes out for the first time on the track and initially they did pretty well, I was getting them to partially lockup at the end of the strait away and kicking in ABS though after a couple laps I started to get pretty bad brake fade. I'm pretty sure its just the cheap pads I threw in. Next race I'll bring a couple different pads to test with.

Bumping

Where did you guys go to get your rotors honed out? I've got everything on the car ready to go except everywhere I go no one wants to touch the rotors. Been to 8 places so far...

It was just an old school machine shop with one older guy there. In Chicago. Im surprises no one will do it by you. Its really just about the easiest thing to do in the machining world. Just making a hole larger. I can dig up the guys contact info but you would have to ship to Chicago. Thats going to kill you on cost.

On a side note. I had the car at the track this last weekend so I really got test these things out. Car went 9.7@141 so I was able to test them stopping from about 145 as I always keep going a little past the line.

Nothing short of amazing. I could not believe the grip they had. I could lock the tires up if I wanted and there was no fade.

Should have done this a long time ago....

What pads do you have? I have basic ceramic pads but they faded pretty bad after about 5 minutes and then I had to do a cool down lap. I'd prefer something with limited dust.

I'm thinking to just stop by a technical college or something, because as soon as some of these auto/machine shops see me walk in with a brake rotor they're like "Nope we don't work on those sorry"

They are also the basic veramic pads. Forget the brand, in the video haha.

I was just stopping from a quarter miles, maybe it would have been different on a road course? Is that what you were doing?

Maybe some Hawks pads that can take some heat would work better for what you are doing.

That may be your best bet. Kind of ridiculous a shop that does things 100 times harder than enlarging a hole can't take care of you.
