Default Loud Thud over larger bumps

My WS6 seems to have developed a fairly loud thud from the rear end suspension (or something in the rear area) but only when going over larger potholes or bad patches of road. In September my car was at the local garage and I had the mechanic check all the rear suspension components and check everything was torqued to spec. A slight clunking I had which was from the panhard bar stopped after it was torqued up properly. This new noise seems to be a more physical kind of noise but the car is not bottoming out on the axle bumpers as I've put some grease on the bumpers and non has transferred to the axle at all. Any ideas what it could potentially be?

Is the car lowered or stock height? Look in the transmission tunnel area and see if the torque arm is contacting the tunnel. I have seen that happen on occasion.

Possible play in the rear hatch between the hatch bracket and the latch? Give it a couple quick pushes on the hatch to see if there feels like there's any "looseness" there

Car is stock height on 17inch TT2.

It's not the rear hatch I've already ruled that out. Torque arm and tunnel shows no signs of contact anywhere. It does sound like it's coming from the rear axle area. If I had to describe the sound I'd say it was as if somebody was dropping a 12 crate of beer into the T top storage area of the trunk from a foot above the floor.

I would go over every component. A lot of things can happen in 2 months. A "clunking" can come from a number of components which can all be checked rather easily. You're never going to get a pin point of a clunk from a forum. Chances are it's coming from something either worn out, broke, loose or a clearance issue.

Thanks I will get it checked out. To be honest I'm leaning towards it potentially being the exhaust pipes or mufflers hitting the floor pans. That's first on my list to check out.

Turns out it is the stock De-carbon shocks which are banging. Probably original so 15 years old..

I did want to upgrade to Bilstein or Koni along with some BMR springs so....the time is now (well once cash permits!)

Is the torque arm to diff mounting points torqued down?

When I bought my car the spare jack was missing the bolt. I put it back in that way again after the coilovers. Probably spent 2 hours freaking out and trying to hunt down what was making that metallic clunk and shaking sound.

Did you figure out where the sound is coming from? Mine does it too driving through the pit area.

I've checked everything!

I've not fixed it yet but after a go pro camera assessment the diagnosis seems to be that the stock shocks have had it and are allowing excess travel of the suspension and thumping when the shocks rebound. I will Know for sure when I replace them.

Okay sounds good. I'm having the same issue except my shocks are fairly new. I've checked just about everything. I'm getting ready to bring it home for the winter, guess i'll keep looking around...
