Default First time brake pad change.

Hello everyone. My first time changing brake pads myself. I have PBR calipers. Can someone show a link or give me info on the pads I need. I'm guessing stock pads won't fit. Thanks front and rear have PBR calipers.

PBR made the OEM calipers that were installed at the factory.

Are you going to change the rotors? If so, you'll have some parking brake adjustment procedures to plan for.

If you use the car as a daily driver, I highly recommend AC Delco PROFESSIONAL Ceramic Pads. (These closely match what was factory-installed on the '98-02's.) I've had my car for 140K miles and I just put my third set of pads on the car. (Delco sells a lower ADVANTAGE grade and a, presumably, higher PERFORMANCE grade, but I've never been left wanting more.) If you do more specialized driving, you can get all sorts of specialized pad recommendations here.

Your title sounds like something a 12 year old girl does. The "self pad" part, lol

Thanks for the help. My car is 1999 z28 with lt1 nose. I thought I had aftermarket because donut spare doesn't go on. I'll go with your recommendation ac delco. I bought this car 5 1/2 years ago. Car already has slotted rotors. I thought the same about title wording. ( pad ).

Chit, I have pics on my iphone but I do not see option for pics in reply using my phone. I did get four donut spares from v6 cars to hopefully use when the car got painted. They didn't fit. When I bought the car everything was aftermarket. Exhaust, springs, shocks, rotors.ill work on the car Christmas week. I will take photo with my iPad. Even with iPad it isn't easy for me to figure how to post pics. Last time I tried it was a thumbnail and only one out of three I posted made the post. Thanks for help. I'll try to g t some pics up. eBay and CL are real easy to post pics.

Ebay and craigslist have their own image hosting, you just need an image host like www.imgur.com copy and paste the links.
Rockauto has good prices on ac delco stuff, about half the GM dealer listprice.

Right. You can post pictures to any external web site and link to them from here, or you have personal album space on this site. If you go to your user page, you can access your personal album, post pictures there, and derive a link.

I think most people post to external photo sharing sites because its much easier.

Get a decent manual,, even specialty calipers all kinda work the same way..
ONly tear apart 1 side at a time so you can compare while re-assembling.

If the car has been driven hard seen track days etc, our probably due for new piston seals... Not a hard job just a bit messy.

There must be a sticky here somewhere, replacing stock pads requires removing 1 (one) bolt, the top one and just let the caliper lay down (out).

For a daily driver, get the top of the line non-metallic ceramic. (I expect you'll find 2-4 grades available.) The top of the line should be quiet and durable. The ceramic will keep the dust down for you and should perform well.

If you drive more aggressively or do things that would heat up the brakes, (like racing) you might look at a semi-metallic. Lots of articles on the types: http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/t...-metallic.aspx

Thanks, box says premium disc brake pads, ceramic. They didn't have a non metallic option. I'm hoping because it doesn't say anything, it is non metallic. But desk guy said there's no such thing as non metallic. He said their are no organic pads made. I'm with you and thanks for the help.

^ That's somewhat true as I understand the full ceramic pads have copper in them. The semi-metallic pads with ferrous metal in them are the ones that create the nasty dust, etc.

What part number did you get?
