New Item: Strano Performance Parts Master Cylinder Brace for all 93-02 cars
#241
I don't know there is one. What I can tell you is this. Faced with running a MC Brace, or a STB, you will find much more difference in the MC Brace. Seriously. We can all see how much the Master and booster move when putting your foot on the brake. Just open the hood and check it. The towers don't move like that. If they did every time you turned the fenders would contact the hood.
The MC brace gets more force the calipers, which helps the car stop faster. It makes the brake pedal MUCH firmer and more responsive. It is a tangible change, not a subjective one. Some folks say they notice the STB a little, some say not at all. I haven't had anyone say they didn't see a big change with the MC Brace.

Again, easy to say. But I am not interested in a STB like the Hotchkis which isn't very rigid. Anything with a lay back angle where the loads have to go back then turn isn't as strong as a bar that is inline.

Bumping this up as a new batch is arriving in stock.
This works, you can see that in the previous reviews. And we are starting to see folks trying to made they own. My favorite is the bent metal one without any support structure, using metal thinner than what I use for the support legs.
I've seen another that puts a lot of pressure on one small spot at the end of the aluminum master. That's not a good idea to basically drive a steel nail into the end of you aluminum brake master. The harder you push the more stress you orp in that one spot. That's why I use a foot too spread the load access the front.

Any long term users have any issue with this mod?
I'm thinking about buying but concerned that while it does indeed reduce movement of the master cylinder, it also transfers the movement of the shock towers to the firewall, through the master cylinder assembly. The towers move around under load (STB or not) and by coupling that tower to the end of a long master cylinder assembly, you are further amplifying any vibration or stress being applied.

It is important to note that the way my design is means you are not in any way directly connecting the master cylinder 2 the towers on the car. The foot on the brace that pushes against the master cylinder is flat against the flat part of the master cylinder. They can slide up and down if need be. I have seen other people try and make designs that stick essentially a pin in the hole at the end of the master and that would induce a fair bit of torque into the master cylinder as the tower moves. Mine won't do that.
If you're worried about vibration, you don't have to put any preload on it at all in fact you could weave say a millimeter of space between the foot and the master cylinder so they're actually not touching each other until you apply the brake pedal.

Found a new (to me) YouTube video, which CLEARLY shows the change. Great angle. Thanks to Russell for taking the time to show the difference!
I know there is "another one" out there now, which is simply a 90 degree piece with no supporting structure, and much thinner metal. It's cheaper yes, but that's it. You can apply a lot of force here, enough to flex the car's unibody firewall (which is already more than just bent steel.

The master is bolted to the booster. It flexes too, not just the firewall. Note how ALL that movement stopped after?

Probably no biggie if only a little, do you have a pic?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? It's pretty easy to knock stuff off. It's harder to do things like know why things are done the way they are, control the material, welding and coating, etc.

Normal? It isn't abnormal, part of the cause is how deformed the firewall is before it goes on. One customer could not even use it as his car is older and was wrecked and the master is way higher than the brace can reach. My guess is when the car was wrecked the person had their foot on the brake, hard... and when the car stopped things got really bent, or his shock tower is very tweaked. That is the only instance of one not working at all, and there isn't anything I can do about a pre bent car.
The foot distributes the load over a fair area. No issues, sadly no way to make sure every car has a Master that is in exactly the same spot vs. the shock tower.

Mine is off center and my car has never been in a wreck. There's too much variance in these cars because GM quality control was **** back then. You could take mine off put it on another car and it would line up center. On another car it may be off center but in a different direction. Nothing to worry about.

That's true, the build tolerances aren't super tight, let alone what 20 years of pounding might have done. When my 2001 had an accident a number of years ago, there were specs from GM on measuring unibody that had 5mm (that's almost 1/4") of allowance.
