Has anyone looked into the gen 3 cts j56 brakes non-v model. Those calipers are 150 each, with 13.5 rotors

I'm sure it wouldn't be the end of the world, but a little close for comfort for me.

Both the ATS / JL9 setup and the CTS-V setup have calipers with the same pistons/bore sizes, so they apply the same clamping force, but since braking torque=force*radius, those 355mm rotors should provide about 10% more braking torque than the 321mm rotors used in the ATS/JL9 setup. You just have to decide if that 10% is worth the headache of fitment to you and your application.
its a tight fit. I barely took any off the casting on the neck of the caliper... using hand file only. I will take more off next time i swap pads. Im not going to say they are 50% improvement on the base ats calipers, but its a noticeable difference. The taller rotor gives more brake torque which is apparent. I have not had the car on the track yet.

as for fitment, the spoke clearance is the same as the ats calipers. The barrely clearance is maybe 1.5-2mm which is close, but again i barely took any material off. There is plenty of room for wheel weights between the caliper and spoke of wheel, and you may need to move them out further. parts are available and price compared to the base c7/ats is about the same. absolutely the biggest brakes ive seen on stock wheels. I am happy with the upgrade and excited to hit the track by the end of summer.

Cheers

How big of a spacer did you use? My camaro is strictly a track and autox car.
i am using the same 1/2” hubcentric spacer.

Boosted, are you running the 13.5 rotor setup? Also, what calipers did you use? I was looking around and quite a few gm vehicles starting in 2013 use the 13.5 brembo setup including the xts, cts, camaro, and corvette to name a few. But I noticed that the casting numbers were different from the corvette/ Camaro calipers compared to the others running the same 13.5 rotors. Anybody know if that could affect the mounting? Cuz if not you could get the 13.5" calipers A LOT less then the corvette ones.

they are xts j55 calipers. Again same part as the c7 z51 calipers, but a fraction of the price.

The engineer that decided to develop 2 piston calipers for a 13.5" rotor when the other three listed are 4 piston happened to be watching this at the time:

Has any one put hands on that "2 piston" caliper. The pictures show 2 pistons on one side, with it being a fixed caliper, it wouldn't function correctly. It would be constantly trying to deflect the rotor and couldn't compensate for pad wear. Right???

I work in the plant that builds the XTS, and I can assure you wherever it says 2 piston caliper is a typo - they are definitely the same Brembo casting as all of the GM 13.5" rotor calipers. 4 pistons.

The only XTS that gets a 2-piston caliper is the heavy duty / livery / professional option, which are basically the hearses and limos that come factory with 6-bolt hubs. They come with a 2-piston floating caliper that's basically a truck caliper. Just make sure if you're buying XTS calipers you don't get those ones.

OK so 1722592 and 1722593 on rockauto for $175.79 ea are 4 piston.

Right on, that makes more sense. A fixed 2 piston caliper would literally be the world's most unsafest braking system lol.

Just installed the 6th gen FIFTY Brembo calipers + C7 base rotors. Extremely easy swap. My autox wheels, OEWheels C5Z 17x9.5, fit without spacer with PLENTY of clearance. My track wheels however, stock 02 SS wheels, don't. I tried a 15mm spacer, and it was way too much spacer. I'm thinking a 7mm will be enough. The reason I want as small of a spacer as possible is because a bigger spacer puts more stress on the already weak hubs.

Caliper paint G2 - $30
Stickers - $5
Caliper bolts from fastenal - $6

According to my bathroom scale the stock rotors were 19.5 lbs and the new ones were 21 lbs. New calipers were .5 lbs heavier, for a total weight gain of 2 lbs per side. No issues with the stock brake lines.

Glad to see some Firehawk wheels up in this thread! Nice work! Do you have any more pics of the caliper clearance with the 15mm spacer?
