And CTS-V brembos don't fit under stock ss wheels without significant grinding, correct?

I believe the offset on those wheels are is 56mm and you need to be less than 41mm otherwise you need hubcentric spacers. Using spacers essentially decreases the offset value. Check the CTS-V brembo sticky for spacer size.

I believe a misconception is being passed along here. Offset and backspacing measurements, while important to wheel/body contact, has nothing to do with brake clearance. Brake clearance is solely related to backside of wheel spoke to hub mating surface. Very few new wheels offer this info, and this dimension is much harder to come by on older wheels.
Other than the obvious, I personally would never let a wheel dictate my braking choices, or my brakes dictate my wheel choice. That's what spacers are made for. If you don't like loose spacers, have them welded on to your wheel.

This is good info. Looks like the 4 piston brembos will fit my 17x7 race stars with 0mm offset based on post 521 here:

There are several measurements to keep in mind when attempting to fit wheels over brakes. Clearance between the caliper and the inside face of the wheel is one, but there is also consideration to be made between the caliper and the main hoop of the wheel. For instance with larger brakes, stock 4th gen SS wheels generally won't clear a big caliper, due to the smaller hoop diameter. However, 17" 4th gen Corvette sawblades, which have essentially the same backspace will clear because they are made for larger brakes (larger distance from inside spoke surface to the wheel hub mounting surface, as noted bt stp001 AND larger-diameter hoop in the area where the brake caliper is located)

Fwiw, i don't know if I am comfortable with the idea of welding spacers to wheels.

2. z06 rotors aren't exactly large enough for the ctsv caliper. The brake pads hang off the rotor

5th gen camaro rotors are the best way to do ctsv calipers. Proper offset of rotor. Pads/Caliper fit rotor properly. Hub bore needs machined larger though (~$70-100 pair at machine shop).

Here's the ctsv calipers on the c6z06 rotors. 5th gen camaro rotors have the same diameter of 13.9" so looks like those will fit a 17x4.5 race star wheel also with plenty of clearance.

Bosche blue be1001 pads $25

If needed for stock zr1s - $50-60 for arp studs and 1/2'' 5x4.75 spacers
Also replaced stock rubber lines for 10/side

With some shopping around, I dont see why it cant be done with new parts for under $400-450
Just to confirm, when you say stock rubber lines you mean that the stock F-body lines worked with the Brembos? Are the lines the same on the bigger brake LS1 cars and smaller brake LT1 cars? I'm gathering parts to do this brake upgrade and I just want to make sure I get all my ducks in a row. Thanks!

While it would be much more expensive, I would love to see someone dish out for the c7 z51 calipers. They are identical calipers but the casting on the ears is longer to accept the 345mm rotor. I will measure again, but I am confident the z51 brakes will be direct bolt on as well with 17'' wheels. This would still be cheaper than most aftermarket big brake options.
Sorry, see that my question is already answered in here - I was just too lazy to read far enough. Thanks for all the info on this @Boosted53F!

I believe you need to use 98-02 f-body lines. LT1 era cars a little bit different. All 98 and up f-body's have the same brakes regardless of engine or suspension package.

Hmm, yes, the brake hose PN's for 1997 and 98+ are different. Can anyone confirm whether or not the LT1 lines work (it's a Trans Am WS6 if there are different versions)? Or will the LS1 lines connect properly to my hardlines? I'm planning on getting new hoses so it doesn't matter to me which ones I order, as long as I get something that will thread onto my hardlines and fit the calipers.

If you have wheels that fit the CTS-V/5th gen rotor setup and access to a machine shop that can increase the bore size of rotors, I'd trade out the 1722586/87 calipers and C7 rotors and go with the CTS-V brembo calipers 1722287/88 and 5th gen camaro rotors 1771050.

I don't have wheels that will clear those brakes, and from what I've read the ATS Brembo's are the same physical calipers with shorter mounting ears. Either way I want to keep my stock 17" wheels, so I'm not considering the CTS-V brakes as an option right now.

As I'm doing more research it's looking like I'll need LS1 spindles, or at the very least an adapter plate of some sort, since the Brembos won't line up with the LT1 spindle caliper mounting holes. My question is, can I just use one of the pre-fabbed C5 brake conversion brackets on my LT1 spindles to mount up the ATS Brembo's? Or do I need the LS1 spindles?

Sam is there an option for 17 inch wheels that need no wheel spacers of washers to space the caliper? My current brakes work ok except the first application the are weak, then once I drive for a minute they work fine, is that a symptom of air, I did recently vacuum bled them.

Fill out your signature so we know what you're working with please. Yes you will need LS1 spindles. I got mine for super cheap from a pick a part back in the spring. Seen em on craigslist around me for a good price too, look for a part out around you. Any trim, engine, brand, 98-02 F body will have the same spindles, if there is a guy parting out like a 99 v6 formula near you, see if you can grab the spindles for like 40 bucks. I'd get a set of spindles even if bracket will work, less connections for things to loosen up at, or be out of alignment from.

Reading this and thinking again. I ended up buying new wheels so it’s no longer a huge concern of my own. However all the c5 bracket does is move the caliper out an inch right? So if someone already had the brackets and used the ATS/ C7 caliper it almost seems like the z51 rotor would then fit...

This was super exciting to read! Just ordered an ATS caliper bundle on eBay. Came with new AC Delco Brembo ATS calipers, ceramic pads, and the pin kit for $352 shipped. I'll be ordering the rest soon. Has anyone had any trouble with their 1/2" hubcentric spacers fitting? I've found a set that matched the bolt pattern and center bore, but says "may not fit front hub." Which concerns me a little. I'm going to go with 2014 non-Z51 C7 Brakenetic RS slotted rotors, dorman bolts, and ARP 2.5" studs. I already have stainless brake lines waiting to be installed, am I missing anything else? This is going on a 99 Z28 with 17"x9.5" polised OEWheels ZR1 Reps.

EDIT** Decided to grab a vacuum bleeder too. Last one broke

Post up pics when you get everything installed lined up. I'm right down the street in Fairfax from you. I have a set of 98-02 spindles for my 95 so I can do this swap one of these days.

Will do! Just ordered the spacers and studs. It'll be this summer, because I'm out in Abu Dhabi for a little while. I'm going to do brakes and suspension at the same time.

interesting to see more people gravitating to the c7/ats setup now. From the info I have read, the at's setup will clear a 17" wheel no problem, only mod needs is drill the caliper mounting holes to m14. The z51 brakes are the same as the ats setup, only difference is that it's a 13.6 rotor, and will need an 18" wheel. It's also a 200 dollar price difference. For aggressive street driving, the ats setup will be a world of difference with 12.6 rotors. For more track or auto x, I would do the z51 if you have the wheels. Plus EVERYTHING is off the shelf parts that you dot need to machine to fit.

I'm just about to do the ATS / 12.6" setup, the only thing I haven't purchased yet are the rotors. Does anyone know if the ATS or C7 Base rotors work better as far as fit?

The poster that originally wrote about this setup used ATS rotors I believe, but both ATS and C7 Base rotors are 321mm diameter. According to the info I've found, both have a slightly different top hat height, so I'm not sure if one is a better fit than the other?

EDIT: I just reread and answered my own question - the C7 rotor has to be used. The ATS has a different bolt pattern.
