Default clunk or thud under hard acceleration. is stock trans mount too weak?

hey guys just wondering what your opinions are on my issue i have a typical bolt on ls1. last year i had bad clunking under acceleration so i replaced the trans mount with a new oem one because i didnt want any extra vibration. an i replaced the torque arm mount with prothane.. the clunking went away all is good. now this year i installed a built 4l60e with yanks ss4000 converter. when i floor it as the car is accelerating i can feel a thud or clunk here an there.. do you think the new stock trans mount is too weak? what are your thoughts?

If you broke another Trans mount you could relocate the stock torque arm off the tail shaft with a torque arm relocation bracket. That should help if not take care of breaking rubber Trans mounts.

possible, but it's probably broken again (more than likely) stock rubber ones seem to be prone to this. Some guys have had luck with solid or prothane motor mounts, relocated torque arm mount, and rubber trans mount

Follow up: Can you have a poly transmission mount if you are unsure of what composition your engine mounts are?

Yes you can run a poly mount, no matter what motor mounts you have. However, this does normally induce some additional NVH. The biggest problem becomes the stress that is applied tot he tailshaft housing. As all the force is now concentrated on the torque arm mount and where it attaches to the transmission. I have seen this cause failures of the mounts and the tailshaft housing itself. The best fix is to relocate the torque arm off of the trans and onto the crossmember. This can be done using one of our pieces such as this:

I run a prothane mount and a tunnel mount torque arm. Works great for me.

ok being a bolt on car with a 4000 converter and on a budget which do you guys think I should do... just replace trans mount with prothane or get a relocation bracket for 250 an then also replace the trans mount with oem or prothane..

I'd get the torque arm off the trans if you really want to use your car and your bolt on's without fear of breaking the back of your trans.

My normal combination of choice is to relocate the arm with a stock trans mount. The rubber mount will help keep driveline nvh transfer to a minimum while not compromising any strength for torque arm mounting

I have not gone wot because the roads were wet .. do you think the mount will be more forgiving with some miles put on it?

One other thought is that I put some grease on the torque arm so it would slip into the new bushing easier. Do you think that could be an issue
